no kidding. there are some greeks left who may remember their previous bout with hyperinflation one of the worst in history.no point in reintroducing drachma, they'll have to endure hyperinflation which will be worst than the economic mess now.
How do you judge your society? By how well the rich are doing or how well the poor are doing?
The UK is already the second largest economy in Europe after Germany.
All this fuss about a piddler like Greece...if we pull out of the EU, that will be major news...could destroy Europe....we are huge net contributors to the EU budget.
I have a solution for the Greek people. Let an international banking goliath like HSBC immediately set up a banking network in the country. Businesses will be encouraged to deposit money and also to obtain small lines of credit for running their businesses. Currency will be euros. The bank will operate strictly under a special license given by the Greek govt with no supervision or interference from the ECB. The whole purpose being to unfreeze the Greek economy.
I thought they would need to exit the eurozone if they default, but tbh i really can't see why they have to. Just default, tell the Jarmans they can fook off, implement a banking system independent of the ecb and use the euro.
actually this isn't quite accurate. Pikketty had it correct however. Germany received --Wiki says 50%, Piketty says 60%-- debt relief, but in any case not 90%, and Greece was a party to the agreement. Germany was given 30 years (according to Wiki) to repay the banks and governments it owed money to and has fulfilled its obligation under the agreement..No you are dead wrong. In 1953 at a London conference all German pre-WWII debts and debts regarding postwar aid from the UK and the UK were cut by 90%. More importantly it was also decided that reparation payments were to be established at a peace-conference to be held after a future unification of Germany. This conference was never held, so Germany didn't pay one penny of reparation for the damage they inflicted upon the world in WWII. Please stop arguing that Germany repaid generously for its crimes.

It seems the Gavin Schalliol Translation of the Die Zeit interview at the original link has been taken down. . Here is a link to another copy of Schalliol's translation, posted at zero hedge, that is working for the moment at least. It looks as though zero hedge is not bothered by copyright issues. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-...ebts-it-has-no-standing-lecture-other-nations
Even the poorest person in USA 2015 lives better than the middle class lived in 1950.
