George W. Bush latest assessment: "We're kicking ass" in Iraq.

SouthAmerica: After a surprise visit to Iraq US President George W. Bush went on a visit to Australia for the 15th annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), to attend that summit.

When asked how things are coming along in Iraq during an official meeting the US President answer was: "We're kicking ass" in Iraq.

Here is how George W. Bush arrived to that conclusion:

This information is as of May 19, 2007 since then the US kicked a lot more ass in Iraq.

When people talk about the current war in Iraq the figures are distorted when compared with the figures from the Vietnam War.

The New York Times had a front-page article on May 19, 2007 – “Death Toll for Contractors Reaches New High in Iraq.” – As military steps up efforts, risks also rise for drivers, translators and others.

Then the article said regarding the current Iraq War: “…That brings the total number of contractors killed in Iraq to at least 917, along with more than 12,000 wounded in battle or injured on the job, according to government figures and dozens of interviews."

During the Vietnam War most of these people would have been part of the US forces. But today the US armed forces have outsourced part of the death toll and number of wounded people to a new group called contractors.

But for all practical purposes for us to have a better picture of the total death toll in Iraq plus the number of wounded American soldiers then we need to adjust the numbers to also include the numbers related to the contractors.


A better estimate of the Iraq War number of casualties and wounded is:


US Military Fatalities as of May 28, 2007 = 3,466 people

Contractors Fatalities as of May 19, 2007 = 917 people

Total Fatalities = 4,383 people.


US Military wounded as of May 28, 2007 = 25,242 people

Contractors wounded as of May 19, 2007 = 12,000 people

Total Wounded = 37,242 people

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, during a meeting with Australian Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile, President George W. Bush asserted that "We're kicking ass" in Iraq.

Indeed. Unfortunately, the President apparently didn't mention that it's our own ass we're kicking; but he can be forgiven for leaving out that detail, what with the way just about everyone else in Iraq seems to be kicking our ass, too.

Brazil murder rate similar to war zone, data shows

The enclosed thread is about how well the United States is doing in Iraq, and not about Brazil.

The US is doing as well in Iraq as the US did in Vietnam.

The US showed to the world how much "ass kicking" they were doing in Vietnam – I remember clearly like if it had happened yesterday when that last helicopter lifted from the rooftop of the America embassy at the closing of that war.

History repeats itself all over again – Americans love symbols and historical moments (usually staged for the cameras) - and I can already picture the last American helicopter lifting from the rooftop of the American embassy in Baghdad – in another symbolic defeat as in Vietnam.

It does not matter if that Hallmark symbolic moment comes in 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years – there are no two ways about it everybody knows how this picture is going to end.

By the way, I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you about which country has more problems with its gangs. At last count the United States had over 2 million people who belongs to criminal gangs and only 1.7 policemen to keep these criminals in check.

I don’t have time to compile right now, but if you check the number of murders in the United States for the last 20 years you will see that Brazil is no match to the US statistics – the United States beat Brazil very easily on that department. And today the US gangs are moving from the big US cities and they are moving to your local neighborhood – and very soon we will not have a safe place anywhere in the United States. It is just a matter of time.

The US has 2.2 million people in prison, and jails around the country plus over 5 million people on parole.

Please don’t give this BS about crime in Brazil – the United States when the US has a very similar problem.

Besides in Brazil most of these people that you mentioned who are dying are criminals who belong to criminal gangs. In Iraq they are killing innocent women, senior citizens, and children by the thousands.

Never mind when the US did nothing and just watched when Israel annihilated the entire country of Lebanon.

Brazil will never come close to the United States when it comes to having bloody hands.

Not in a million years.

I think half the people who post in this forum should spend their time in political sites instead of ET. They never seem to write about trading. I've gone back and read numerous back threads from a few of the guys who post absurd crap here, and sure enough, almost no trading posts.

SouthAmerica: I guess we have two new neocons who just found the Elite Trader forum - and they already want to hang people on this forum. They probably come from that area of the country where brother and sisters inter marry on a regular basis.
