Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!!

I thought NBC's coverage of the Brickyard race yesterday was a total joke, at least at the end. They spent the last 5 or 6 laps concentrating exclusively on the 48, even though he was just motoring around the track with such a lead no other cars were even visible. Was that some kind of product placement deal they had with Lowes? I'm pretty sure there was some intense racing back in the 4-12 place area, although i can't really be sure because they never televised it after the last caution. Then they totally missed the accident on the last lap, preferring to show the 48 doing burnouts, etc. Would it have killed them to show a couple of replays?

I really miss the Fox coverage. Benny Parsons is ok, but the camera work and direction on NBC is amateurish. And who cares what Wally Dallenbach, a career journeyman driver, has to say?

I agree, the 5 minute close-up of LOWE'S was a bit much.
 
I always tivo it and start an hour or so later ...yesterday was a total joke because there was no major delays yet i caught up and watched the last 20 minutes live...Also, I love Gordon and johnson...but for the love of man....

CAN THEY STOP WITH THE F#ING STORY OF THE PLANE CRASH ALREADY???? WE KNOW, WE KNOW......It's not like its dale jarret out there and if he wins it may be your only chance to give the sappy touch to his victory...this is F*ing JG and JJ...one of them wins every other race for gods sake. All last year and now this year we have to listen to the same recount and same fake try to make this an emotional victory or sorts like Tiger Woods winning the British...let it go....ok...thats all i have to say on that subject.:mad:

Elliott to replace Mayfield in No. 19 at The Glen.

Mayfield said no one has told him about change in entry list


Jeremy Mayfield may be free to leave Evernham Motorsports for Bill Davis Racing sooner than he expected.

Bill Elliott will be in the No. 19 Dodge that Mayfield has driven for EMS since 2002 this weekend at Watkins Glen.


Contractual agreements remain to be settled before it can be decided if Mayfield will be out the remainder of the season.

Team owner Ray Evernham could not be immediately reached for comment.

Mayfield, who said last weekend at Indianapolis he likely would not be at Evernham Motorsports next season, said he had not been contacted by Evernham about a switch.

"It's not professional, that's for sure,'' said Mayfield, "That's the way everything has worked around here for a while.''


Elliott Sadler, who last month was given his release from Robert Yates Racing after the season, reportedly already has accepted a deal to replace Mayfield in 2007.

Mayfield admitted he's had discussions with Bill Davis, as well as Michael Waltrip and several other car owners.

Mayfield, who made the Chase for the Nextel Cup the past few season, also said he wanted to finish this season in the No. 19.

"I really don't know what to say,'' Mayfield said.


Mayfield said he hasn't talked to Evernham since leaving Indianapolis. He doesn't know if being replaced this weekend means his contract with EMS is null and void.

While current McLaren F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya was all smiles as he signed a multi-year deal to race in the Nextel NASCAR Cup thingy for 2007, his better half, the delightful Connie,

was allegedly not quite so chuffed.

In his excitement at actually finding something to do next year, Monty apparently forgot to tell his wife that no longer would she be gracing the elegant races of Monaco and Monza, but could instead expect to spend long hours at less glamorous tracks such us Bristol Motor Speedway and the world-famous Martinsville Speedway.

We asked our US racing correspondent whether Mrs Montoya could expect to find much in the way of luxury shopping on her travels around the NASCAR calendar.

Once he had stopped laughing he said: “Nope – but she can get a bucket of wings, ribs and fries with two litres of Coke for $7.95 – now try getting that sort of deal in Monte Carlo.”

For the uninitiated, NASCAR is a form of motorsport where lots and lots of big cars that look like cereal packets drive around in circles for an eternity before they have a huge pile-up and then somebody wins.

Should suit JPM right down to the ground…

He should have quite an adjustment to make, as this isn't running around by yourself all day. There's bumping and passing in these "cereal packets". Lots of luck to Mr. Montoya.

Actually, the writer is acknowledging that Juan is known for "bumping" into things during his F1 career, mostly other cars. But here is a humorous clip of Monty bumping into a cameraman:
