a) Windows is not free now (and you could possible not know whether Windows will ever become free, I certainly pray that it will never happen, the last thing I want is to have to watch ads and put up with marketing crap so just that cheapos like you who cannot afford software do not have to pay money.)

b) You never have nor will you ever find a free book on Amazon. Please show me right now where anywhere on Amazon a book is "given away " free-of-charge, meaning without requiring you to either pay or enter into any other way of agreement/commitment. There are some classics in the Kindle store but those are books you could download ANYWHERE else, and without the proprietary kindle format but a publicly accessible pdf, nor do you have to have a kindle to read the free stuff on Amazon Kindle store. So please, stick to truth and do not make up bs.

c) Why are books better that are sold for free rather than paid-versions? Any rational behind it? And sure, you are trying to tell us that someone who does not charge a penny for his work earns more than someone who does charge but whose books do not sell well? (Unless of course there are other means to generate income at work such as ad clicks or the like , which we, however, are not considering here).

d) Sure, you can get your freebies and whore yourself out to ad companies by supplying your email address, phone number, what have you. Or you could first buy a kindle so you can download free kindle ebooks, lol. Or you could sing a song so you get a free tshirt. There are many ways you get stuff without money but they are NEVER free. Simply because this world has nothing to give away for free.

OS is free or cheap (who would have guessed that Win OS will be offered for free ever)

books are becoming cheap or near free (I have downloaded some from Amazon for $ 0.0 or slightly above that level) due to electronic publishing (self publishing) and delivery because of inherent competition with downward pressure on prices (and yes sometimes quality).

Before the author who wrote book was getting very little due to cost of printing and ditribution and in the end and if this was not a bestseller with large number of copies sold they were not making any money.

Many recent cheap/near free publications are much better than some books offered for a chunk of money.

However, proceed with caution because for obvious reasons some of them do not offer any value but I am surprised myself how many are actually very good or better than some books already in the market priced according to old pricing model

Why pay a lot for something that is available on the Web anyway and you just want convenience of having this knowledge base reviewed and compiled in convenient form, or have an expert publishing on the topic who already has lecture and presentation material ready and makes it available in convenient form for a modest fee

a) show me where on the Microsoft website you can download Windows 7 or 8 for desktops for free without needing a license, no trial, just a full version? Answer: Nowhere! Your bullshit links are just that, bollocks. Why? Because those are versions that are customized with limitations (such as come pre-loaded with bloatware and useless search engines such as Bing and they are available to hardware developers not to retail clients. Also, the Office version they bundle is limited to 1-year in order to hook people to using it in the hopes they continue with a paid subscriptions. Nothing wrong with that itself but it is factually wrong to claim they give something away entirely free. Free means royalty free, no future commitment needed, it works also in 10 years. This is just not the case here. Each of your posts comes with the same caveats, no exception. Each time there is a hook, your statements are not honest and always there is something you conveniently omit. Honesty is a term you seem to have never heard of.

b) exactly, the same ebooks and documents you can download anywhere else. I can provide 2 dozen links that educate on how to use HTML5 or whatever. I claimed you cannot download ebooks for free that are available for pay elsewhere. And my claim stands.

c) That is the problem of the author, lol. If you do not like the deal that Amazon has to offer or other publishing houses have to offer then go elsewhere. Setup your own homepage and sell your book there with a paypal account or credit card payment service. Very simple. You have the free choice and so do all the authors. Its disingenuous to willingly and knowingly sign a contract and then bitch about the terms later on.

At least you agree that nothing is truly for free. Thank you for being honest at last.

And I have published tons and actively contribute as quant. But I will not reveal where because I am happy that particular service is mostly free of cockroaches and freebie suckers like you are. Please stick to this website and free linux ware to satisfy your hunger for freebies. I, in the meanwhile earn my money with trading my own ideas and strategies perusing my own system architecture that I , myself, developed. I have zero inclination to share any of that with others because it works and why should I give away what I worked hard on and which works. In case you still did not understand the motivations behind those giving away strategy ideas: It's because such ideas do not work (anymore) and hence the author has nothing to lose by publicising it. You missing the big picture and your claims are missing the target.

Microsoft was forced to give Windows for 0 dollars first time ever and this is just the beginning. The details are important but not relevant for this discussion.

Publishing and pricing model is changing and both authors and readers will benefit from this. This is the "new free" (not always 0) forcing better affordability of books available through big book sellers which offers lots of convenience in comparison to web crawling for rare finds.

been there, done that.. prepare for A LOT of work.

I combined the concepts of neural networks, boolean trees, kohonen maps and more to something that seems to generate a few % return per year out-of-sample, but it would need a lot of further fine-tuning, testing, proper historical data, and again, a lot more. My networks are very very simple in structure, otherwise you will see overfitting.

bottom line: automatic trading doesn't fit my personality and investment objectives, so I moved on to manual trading.
