Geithner : Americans are "going to have to go back to living within our means."

Quote from Jacob Fries:

"... There is no law requiring lawmakers to listen to the people. There is no recourse against lawmakers doing their own bidding.

Naive, aren't we?

It's also our duty to band together to "throw the bums out"! Effort can't succeed until a huge majority of Americans demand it... and that same majority is being appeased with "free ice cream" to keep them docile and obedient.

Quote from Jacob Fries:

It never ceases to amuse me that the taxpayer believes lawmakers are there in DC to do our bidding. What a joke. They say what they have to say to get elected.

There is no law requiring lawmakers to listen to the people. There is no recourse against lawmakers doing their own bidding.

The notion of public servants in politics is a fallacy.

A truer word was never spoken. But, some are worse than others.

Quote from Angrycat:

Thunderpoo....you forget that I lived in countries where all this "equalization" happened in full force.

The result?

95% were way poorer than the poor in Alabama (one of America's poorest states). The poorest and middle class suffered the most. the 5% that were either in government and able to bully people to get what they want or had friends in high places (whom they usually purchased) lived like kings. Inequality increased and so did poverty.

So, please, find someone else to peddle your Marxist bullshit to.
Oh, so the solution to one cartoon extreme is the opposite cartoon extreme? You're quite the thinker, aren't you?

Give me the time and place and I'll be there to band together. The trouble is that the overlords give out candy that they promise they will be able to confiscate from the most productive. Of course, getting the most productive to stay in your country and continue to produce is a long term problem - by the time it becomes a problem, the politician is entrenched in his position to collect bribes in exchange for favours. What the hell does he care he destroyed the country? Meanwhile, not even Stalin - not even with the Gulags - was able to force labour to produce without incentives. And by "incentive", I obviously don't mean "building a communist utopia".

That's the problem. We need to wake the F up. It's time for another revolution.

after thinking about this I realized that people deserve it

people are cattle, think about it, if people are dumb to that point, they really deserve it

they deserve not only to be cheated and impoverished, but they deserve to die too

this isn't blaming the victim, this is the truth

Think about it, THIS IS HOW NATURE WORKS, living things that are not vigilant for predators, THEY DIE

simple as that don't you think

Quote from Scataphagos:
If we default, nearly all American citizens will be bankrupted.
Potential lenders in the future will want sky-high interest rates because of our "proven and historical default risk".

Why are you so afraid of starting over? Can you not see that we are so far in debt to entitlements and foreigners that the only choice is default? Or would you suggest getting out of debt by creating ten times more debt, as has already been accomplished in six months of Hussein? No nation, no debtor, has ever emerged from debt by incurring more debt, in real dollars. Ask anyone with a credit card. One hundred trillion dollars of debt is $100,000,000,000,000 ON TOP of ever-increasing taxes.

If America is to recover its pinnacle, it must re-industrialize as protectionist, and tell foreign creditors to take a hike. It's the only way to make a clean break and start new. Otherwise, there will always be strings attached to powers outside the country.

I, for one, am not afraid of taking strong medicine and amputation of pleasantries for a decade, to bury the long-dead, no value-added, globalist service economy and rebuild the manufacturing giant that buys what it makes and imposes such tariffs on imports to make the price truly equal at the wholesale level. Such will guarantee free enterprise to continue in competition. Pitting 10 cent/hr workers against an American standard of living was a shit idea to begin with; NAFTA et al were tools of traitors against the pursuit of happiness.

I suppose if we are holding on too tight to our Maseratis and vacation homes, we will choose to decide emotionally instead of like men. Not surprising, given the tolerance of feminism in this land.

Listen, you POS, our oppressed, hopeless and impoverished lives might be a cartoon to a disgusting POS like you, but it was hell for those of us forced to live it.

This is my last response to you, mental midget. As usual, your posts are as worthless as you are.

True. But of course, it's "blaming the victim". Do you always think a victim "deserves it" when he gets sucked in by a dishonest someone who is SUPPOSED to be looking out for his welfare?

Nobody "deserves" to be abused.

Too bad we can't geographically divide the US into "government welfare state", and "capitalistic, freedom state".... say, the Mississippi river?

Now THAT would be "fair" to all.

yes they do because in nature, if you are a cow or a zebra

and you are not a vigilant zebra and you are not looking out for predators constantly

guess what buddy, you won't live long

It's not the guys with mazartis that will lose. It's the most prudent who will suffer a massive erosion of all the wealth the sacrificed to accumulate. The very behaviour that is most prudent and we are trying to encourage will be punished.

Depending on their age (and our population is aging), they may not be able to start over - that will cause massive social problems. The younger will lose both incentive and ability to save and invest because defaulting will serve as a precedent and they will be afraid of being wiped out, plus they will be taxed to death to provide for the older folks who were wiped out int he default.

It's important to stop the deficit spending and stop printing money so that we may avoid this pitfall to begin with.
