J.P. Morgan believes its top chip pick has locked up Google AI business
- Yesterday, during a raft of announcements in itsGoogle I/O developer conference, Google (GOOG,GOOGL) gave a formal announcement to its fourth-generation artificial intelligence/deep learning processor chip: TPU v4, or TPU4 for "short."
- It also announced its TPU Pod cluster consisting of more than 4,096 TPU4 chips (the previous cluster generation comprised 1,024 TPU3 chips).
- That 7-nm TPU4 chip was a custom ASIC co-designed by Broadcom(NASDAQ:AVGO), a longtime Google partner on the TPU processors, J.P. Morgan notes.
- But further: "We believe that Broadcom haswon the next-gen TPU5 chip(two-chip solution - one chip designed in late 2020, 2nd chip will be ready this year - both at 5 nm) and thefuture generation TPU6 chip(two-chip solution at 3 nm)."
- That's part of its call on Broadcom as the firm's top pick in the semiconductor space.
