    • Congress has formally confirmed the election of Joe Biden as 46th president of the United States after rebuffing efforts by a small group of Republicans to object to the acceptance of Electoral College wins for Biden in Arizona and Pennsylvania. The House and Senate began the process of counting Electoral College votes Wednesday afternoon, but the proceeding was interrupted for about six hours by a mob that stormed the Capitol Building. The count resumed at about 8 p.m, but that was after a woman was shot and killed by Capitol Police, while three other people died from medical emergencies.
    • Terrifying day or historic day for American democracy? Maybe a bit of both. While the mob delayed presidential certification and led to horrible violence, it didn't stop the process or institutions, and lawmakers were able to reconvene later that night.

  • There are five priorities for the digital transformations over the next few years, the firm says: Cloud Software; Automation; Collaboration; Communications; and Zero-Trust Security.
  • On Software, Macquarie says "We believe apps and data need to be securely accessible from anywhere and on any device, which requires public cloud software or thoughtful hybrid cloud strategies." That's a boon for Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM), ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW), MongoDB (NASDAQ:MDB), -->nCino (NASDAQ:NCNO) and Datto Holding (NYSE:MSP), it argues. On the latter two, a price target of $95 on nCino implies 42% upside, while a target of $37 on Datto implies 53.5% upside.
  • As for Intelligent Automation, such tools can unlock efficiencies with the same or less human capital. "We see low/no-code, robotic process automation, process mining, AI, etc. as priorities," it says, with its pick being nCino (for nIQ and PEGA), while it expresses "concerns" for Appian (NASDAQ:APPN) despite its solid technology. It rates Appian Underperform, with a target price of $68, implying 51% downside.
  • In Collaboration, Macquarie says it believes "agile, outcome-focused models that align cross-functional teams across business, developers and IT/DevOps are key." Picks there include Atlassian (NASDAQ:TEAM) as well as the upcoming combo of Salesforce and Slack (NYSE:WORK).
  • In Communications Services, "look and feel and ease of use" are critical, with digital channels becoming the "new first impression." Here it likes Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) to benefit from the trends for cloud-based communications platforms; a price target of $420 implies 28% upside.
  • As for Security, "We expect durable remote work and the unparalleled SolarWinds supply-chain hack compromising the most security-conscious organizations to drive adoption of zero-trust security models, benefiting endpoint security, identity and access management, AI based monitoring, cloud, and more."
