Loop sustains gains
Shares of Loop Industries moved higher by nearly 20%Wednesday afternoon. The maker of specialized materials from waste plastic and polyester fiber made a key announcement that lifted its stock to its highest levels in three years.

South Korean industrial giant SK Global Chemical agreed to make a $56.5 million investment in Loop, taking a 10% equity stake in the company that values the stock at $12 per share. Loop intends to use the proceeds toward building out a facility in Quebec.

At the same time, though, SK and Loop have much larger plans for their joint venture. The companies intend to prepare facility construction in South Korea during the first half of 2022, with the hope of completing four facilities by the end of the decade. All told, Loop hopes to put 400,000 tons of waste plastic and fiber to productive use, saving more than 632,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Upland Software acquires Panviva for $19.8M 09:07 UPLD Upland Software announced that it has acquired Panviva, a cloud-based enterprise knowledge management solution. Panviva provides businesses the ability to orchestrate knowledge into a single source of truth and to audit what is consumed and where. The purchase price paid for Panviva was $19.8M in cash at closing, paid out of cash on hand, and a $3.5M cash holdback payable in twelve months. Upland expects the acquisition to generate annual revenue of approximately $7.5M, all of which is recurring, and will be subject to reductions for deferred revenue discount as a result of GAAP purchase accounting, estimated at $2M for the remainder of 2021. The price paid for the acquisition is within Upland's target range of 5-8x pro forma adjusted EBITDA and it is expected that Panviva will generate at least $3.4M in adjusted EBITDA annually once fully integrated.

Affirm initiated with a Buy at DA Davidson 07:57 AFRM DA Davidson analyst Christopher Brendler initiated coverage of Affirm with a Buy rating and $80 price target. Buy-now-pay-later is reinventing the point-of-sale lending, with accelerated adoption likely coming in the U.S. and driving "upside surprise" this year, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Brendler adds that he is positive on Affirm's exposure to the BNPL trend as well as the consumer credit trend given that the pandemic has cleaned up consumer balance sheets and "fired up the job market".
