I don't know if I told you all this but not only did a mouse chew my battery wire in the Jeep but I was getting a very odd completely charged signal on the battery level needle- I mean pinned to the most possible charge which is highly unlikely in my seldom driven jeep and sketchy battery. I chalked it up to the needle itself being broken off the ring or whatever, these things happen but I had a bad feeling that it signified something wrong.

Well this AM she started and suddenly the needle was moving back down and now too far down less than half way and as I gunned the engine warming her up it went even lower...Something is not right.

I got her down to the service station and it might be the alternator. :(

My wife picked me up.

Might just need the belt tightened a little. It sits up, the belt gets stiff, not as "tacky". Then the summer heat expands it a little, it doesn't take much. I hope the guy's honest. I'd have sprayed some belt dressing on while it was running and then looked.

INTERESTING. THE METAL COUPLING THAT HELD THE BATTERY IN PLACE BROKE OFF RUSTED.

Could some movement there also contribute? I thought there was only a fan belt- good point.

Yeah the fan may share the same belt, they used to do that back then sometimes. I'd have to look it up.
