So, given that this is a profitable company producing premium products in an exploding market, why is the stock price down 30% YTD?
One reason is that EagleTree Capital, which owns over 57% of the shares, keeps unloading shares into the market at a price in the mid-$30s. This has created a lot of resistance for Corsair's stock price at that level. The second reason is there is a huge short interest in the stock. According to Yahoo Finance, Corsair’s float is 36.3MM shares and the number of shares short is 10.6MM, meaning that over 37% of the available float of the stock has been shorted. This is asinine. Corsair’s year to date price action and current stock price of $25.77 has to do with the battle between the longs and the shorts – it has nothing to do with the underlying company. It has become completely detached from reality and taken on a life of its own.
