Canadian energy stocks are a great contrarian play here. They make too much money to justify depressed share prices. In any event, if the sector doesn't pick up, the share buybacks and m&a will pick up and remind people of the value. Next earnings cycle will likely surprise on the upside ( the accountants tend to use down cycle quarters as an opportunity to flush all the bad news out setting up positive reports the next time around; hedging also complicates things ).
Nat Gas getting interesting I'm not sure what to think of it short term other then most of the Cdn players have huge earnings spikes if any of it is sustainable ( eg Tourmaline, Arc Resources, Crew Energy, sm cap Sothern Energy, Birchcliff ). Highly volatile area.
Gold miners have sold off far more then the metal itself. Normal strong seasonality is July forward.
