Not to be flippant, but what about a man and a transexual female? Also, tThere are rare cases where a chromosomal male is born with a congenital invagination, undescended testes, and a withered penis that is mistaken for a clitoris. And there is an imbalance of hormones, too much estrogen, too little testosterone. But there is no uteris or fallopian tubes. Some have grown up as females and married. State "sanctioned" too. THe couple is infertile of course. Are these marriages illicit? By your reasoning they are illegal. Should the state dissolve them, revoke thier status?
If you define marriage as a union between a man and a woman and write laws regarding marriage, can't you define a same sex marriage also, and include those marriages within the laws that address marriage?
Your reasoning denying same sex marriage is frankly just stupid. There is no precedent, so it can't be done. So by extension, any novel social arrangement or phenomenon that begs for legislation can't be addressed, because it has no specific precedent.
Alfonso's argument against gay marriages is far more compelling than yours.
gg--first of all no one knows for sure. Two I think most people argue there is a spectrum. Some genetic. some all choice or cultural.
I do not know how you can make the all genetic argument when some people are both and some people switch.
I have met some lesbians who were molested when they were children (badly). Even though I do not buy into the genetic argument (I am at least agnostic with respect to this genetic issue) By the way I understand why they would want to be lesbians. I dated a women for a few years who got raped on her first date in high school and she still had very serious trust issues 10-12 years later.
Point being I think these particular women were lesbian because of culture/choice/environment not genetics. It is at least a spectrum.

Why do we protect children
Why do we have any laws at all.
It about the majority of people consenting to be governed. If the majority defines marriage one way who has the right to say they are wrong. Look I went to school to learn all this stuff so I do not intend to debate the point of the supreme court and the legislature.
I just say please leave me alone and lobby for a civil Union. It should make gays happy and keep me happy. Instead you try to make a marriage and you turn a sort of libertarian willing to leave you alone into a political opponent. Why?
