Gann Theory Chat

Quote from WDGann:

With Gann, there is a clear line between Analysis and Trading.

When you approach Gann Theory, not knowing the 2 difference usually gets people confused. Some get confused with what he talked about his Mechanical Trading Methods with what he says about Cycles. This creates and actually delayed a lot of what I studied.

First, all of his books are concentrated on the "Trading" part. On his trading examples in his books, he mentions a few points about the analysis like, "Trend has changed and with a Double Bottom". When you see the word "Trend", you should expect him to have another analytical bias letting him trade.

Another thing is when he mentions, "Rules" in any part of the book, it's about the "Trading" part.

Speculation: a profitable profession
Mechanical method and trend indicator for trading in wheat, corn, rye or oats
Rules for trading in soybeans, corn, wheat, oats, and rye

in the courses are also "Trading" sections.

I'm not saying the books and the 3 sections don't include and have viable keys to understand his analysis. It's just more efficient to approach it that way.

Analysis part is the harder one. One section in his book that is the most confusing is the Master Egg Course. He goes between trading and analysis thoughts, back and forth that it's very confusing.

I would approach, Angles, Cycles then Master Charts. Well, it's actually, Angles, Cycles, Angles, Cycles, Master Chart, Cycles, Angles, Cycles, Master Chart, and so forth. You just keep on going back and forth with all these concepts.

As for Master Charts: Gann Wheel (Square of Odds), Square of Even, 360 Master Chart, Hexagon Chart, Square of 12, Square of 9 then Squaring the Circle Charts would be an order I would take to look into. Though, again, you keep on going back and forth every time you grasp a concept.

Once you get to point of understanding and seeing cycles within angles, it should be a natural progression to get into other stuff. Technically, it's the first hurdle to pass.

and astro

Astro is part of Analysis...

Gann Astro is:

1. Application of what Master Chart represents.

2. Cyclical representation of 1.

3. Angular representation of 2.

Simply, why is 360 so important? 365 days for Earth.

Then how would you make a Master Chart if you lived in Mars?

How would you use the Master Chart if you lived Jupiter or Saturn?

I'm back into doing Gann Analysis due to the end of specific phase in my trading system...

Bustin' out Gann in:

TICK

TRIN

PREM

just ROCKS SOME ARSE!!!

Something to seriously... seriously... consider!!!

Next project is VIX...

guys, sorry that the thread is quite long for me and I just have something I would like to say and some questions want to ask if you guys wouldn't mind. :p

I 've been curious about gann's method and I just read something about his son's interview too. (from larry williams' website)
so before I start to do any serious research about his theory, i would like to investiage if his story real or not. what his son said may or may not be the truth. we have no way to prove that. but if you guys are familiar about gann's story, you should read about something like this before:

"So accurate are Mr. Gann's techniques that in the in the presence of representatives of a major financial publication, he made 286 trades in a period of 25 market days, on both the long and short sides of the market. Of these, 264 trades were profitable! Read articles on W.D. Gann in our Trading Resources Articles. In 1933 Mr. Gann made 479 trades during the year. 422 were winners and 57 were losers. The return on his capital was a staggering 4000%."

yes, this so called " major financial publication" was known as "The Ticker and Investment Digest" (later became the Wall Street Journal), and if this article is truth, then the story should be real! because I don't think the famous wall street journal had any reason lieing to anyone. my english is not good, so if there's anyone out there who is as curious as me about gann's method can send an email to ask wall street journal about this's article will be great! ( although i know it's 99% they won't give any reply, but why don't we just give a try? we may get lucky, right?)

you can find out this article and other two links i want to discuss here:

Dear WDGann:
I found this site too!
www.sacredscience.com

i remeber it's the volume one they are sellin on their website which contains gann's ANNUAL FORECASTS and TRADING RECORDS!! did you buy that material from that website? i found one of gann's annual forecast from this link:
Gann's 1929 Annual Stock Market Forecast
http://www.webtrading.com/gannforecast.htm
if you bought their material, can you please tell me if it's the same forecast record they are selling?

if the annual forecast from the link above is real, then i think gann still had discover something, although it may not be as great as we thought......
I compare that chart(from the link) with Dow index back to 1929, and i can tell you it's not even close to 90% accurate.....but to me it looks like he still has something there with the chart!

i guess most you guys must read 45 Years in Wall Street before. i have this book, and gann actually did a prediction at the end of this book!! the prediction start from 1950 to 1953. i has more detail about 1950's market. and he just said that 1951 and 1952 maybe a bear market. and he did a prediction about election too. I am not familar with history, so i can only compare his prediction with Dow's index historical record........somehow..i don't see a bear market in 1951 and 1952.....and his prediction about 1950 is not really accurate either....

what surprised me is that I had read a book about his trading theory, and there's a chart claims to be his actual prediction for a certain market, and there's another chart showing the real price movement sometime after his prediction. Those two charts are amazingly very alike.

WDGann, if you bought the volume 1 from that website, do you mind sending me the gann's annual forecasts and his trading records? thanks in advance.

I got rid of most of the Gann stuff when I moved out of Chicago.

My advice studying Gann?

If you analyze the market, it's great.

If you trade the market, it's not necessary.

This is the key to reveal Gann works.

I'm guessing this can lead to a vendor churn but I'll bite.

Question 1...

Does the key to what you call a revelation relate to I-Ching or Kaballah?

Question 2...

Give me a numeric metaphor to subjectively prove the connections between I-Ching, Kaballistic Astrology and Gann-style Financial Astrology...

FirstStrike, let's start there...
