Gus Hansen, aka the “Great Dane” is said to have amassed a massive $10.4 million in lifetime online poker losses, making him the biggest loser online

One of the best poker players in the world, the 37 year-old Ivey has captured nine WSOP bracelets and amassed live winnings of $17,649,220. Ivey’s online cash record has been equally as impressive. With $19,242,744 in earnings playing under his own name at Full Tilt, he is considered online poker’s biggest ever winner.
Despite being the biggest winner in online poker history, since Phil Ivey started playing on the re-launched Full Tilt Poker under his latest nickname “Polarizing”, he is currently down a whopping $3,232,426 with -$2,980,086 of that total coming in this year alone.

who would like to break Terrence Watanabe's record of losing 204 million dollars in one single year. The American businessman was a regular visitor at the Harrah's Entertainment casinos in Las Vegas and is still more than 14 million dollars behind with his payments, which means that he could even be facing 28 years in prison.

52 year old Terrence Watanba from Nebraska took over Oriental Trading Company, his father's business in 1977, which is mostly dealing with party accessories and toys. The company's yearly income exceeded 300 million dollars, when Terrence sold it to Brentwood Associates in 2000. Although the buying price has been undisclosed, it is highly probable that Watanabe received enough money to secure a wealthy life for all his descendants.

However, the 52 year old workaholic couldn't bear having free time and first became the prisoner of alcohol, and then got addicted to gambling. As he regularly did these two free-time activities at the same time, he started losing huge sums of money, which means that the most his descendants can inherit will be his huge debts. According to the first reports by Harrah's Entertainment, he had lost 127 million dollars in Rio and Caesars Palace, but it later turned out that they had underestimated his losses, which truly add up to around $204 million. Watanabe is still unable to put together $14.75 million, which means he could be facing up to a 28-year sentence.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

The court heard that between June 2005 and August 2006, Mr Kakavas spent $1.479 billion at Crown, winning and losing vast sums, often on hands of baccarat that took just seconds to play.

During one "frenetic" stint in May 2006, Mr Kakavas spent a staggering $164 million in just five and a half hours.

His odds of winning back any of the lost funds are pretty slim as both Victoria’s Supreme Court and an appeals court ruled against Kakavas, whose only hope now lies with the High Court.

The question being pondered: Did Crown Casino take "unconscionable advantage" of their most lucrative Australian client by letting him gamble despite his addiction?

Kakavas’ attorney, Allan Myers QC, claims his client had been “clinically diagnosed as a pathological gambler with a severely impaired ability to make rational decisions at the betting table,” according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Kakavas is attempting to recoup a mere $20.5 million of the $1.5 billion lost.

£50,000 Super High Roller event makes debut at European Poker Tour Season 10 London festival

38-event festival heads to Grand Connaught Rooms from October 2-12
The European Poker Tour today announced the 38-event schedule for the Season 10 London Poker Festival, which will feature a £50,000 Super High Roller event for the first time. The London stop, which will take place from October 2-12, is also set for a brand new venue at the beautiful Grand Connaught Rooms in central London.
Europe's richest poker tour will once again join forces with the UK & Ireland Poker Tour for its London stop to create a spectacular ten-day poker festival. The local tour partnerships was an innovation introduced by the EPT in Season 9 to bring players an even greater selection of buy-ins and game types, creating a poker festival that truly offers something for everyone.
Last season's London Poker Festival attracted almost 2,000 players and paid out more than £8 million in prizes. This year, the UKIPT £1,100 Main Event will kick off proceedings on October 2, while the six-day £5,250 EPT Main Event runs from October 6-12. Sergio Aido from Spain, and Dutch pro Ruben Visser, were last season's UKIPT and EPT Main Event champions, who topped fields of 1,098 and 646 players respectively to take home £144,555 and £595,000.
First EPT London Super High Roller
The three-day £50,000 Super High Roller event will be the first of its kind to take place at EPT London. It will run from October 4-6, and is expected to attract over 60 players from the cream of the international poker elite, including Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier and Eugene Katchalov. Speaking about the upcoming event, Daniel Negreanu said: "I think London is the perfect venue for a high buy in event and it's sure to attract all the heavy hitters. It's one I definitely won't be missing!"

Method: A “complete” bet on 17

Mike Ashley is a billionaire businessman and owner of Newcastle United Football Club. News outlets reported in 2008 that he visited a private Mayfair casino and threw down a complex roulette bet worth nearly half a million pounds.

In one spin, he wagered a total of £480,000 on every possible inside wager that includes the number 17. This includes a straight-up bet on 17, all the splits that include the number 17, all the streets, corners and six-line bets. This is called a full complete.

The same news reports also state that he placed wagers on black, odd, the first half, middle column and middle dozen. In the end, he took home roughly £1,300,000 for a net profit of £820,000. I

4. Joseph Jagger

Method: Identified biased roulette wheels

Joseph Jagger worked in the cotton mechanics industry and took his experience with machines to the Beaux-Arts casino in Monte Carlo. There, he paid six clerks to secretly note the results of many spins of the roulette wheels there. He found that one of the wheels showed a clear bias which resulted in the numbers 7, 8, 9, 17, 18, 19, 22, 28 and 29 hitting more often than they should have in a truly random wheel.

Joseph Jagger then visited the casino himself, placed his bets accordingly and won the equivalent of $375,000 over the next few days. The casino eventually wised up to his strategy and got rid of the biased wheel. Jagger kept his winnings, retired from his job, invested the money in his own property and never again returned to the casino.

To put that in perspective, $375,000 back then would have a purchasing power of more than $7,000,000 today.

5. Chris Boyd

Total take: $220,000

Method: Wagered $220,000 on red

Chris Boyd was a 40 year old computer programmer from England who saved $220,000 over a three year period. He took the money to Las Vegas and searched for a casino that would take such a massive bet. Many casinos refused, but he eventually struck a deal with Binion’s Horseshoe Club.

Binion’s had a max bet of $100,000, but they agreed to take his wager this one time. They also covered the 00 slot on their American roulette wheel, which effectively turned it into a European roulette wheel.

Chris bet all $220,000 on red and won the bet.

6. Francis Farrugia, Francesco Baioni and Frank Camilleri
