Futures-Trader, a Simulator for papertrading your IB account

Hi,
if you take a look at the subject of this thread, I state clearly, that Futures-Trader is a Simulator for papertrading. And I think I also make it clear on my Website, that the Simulator is free for everyone to use as long as they wish. So I don't think, I'm misleading anyone or hiding true intentions.

Sure, if you want to use Futures-Trader for trading your account for real I charge something. But Futures-Trader is advertised as a Simulator, you get it free and its doing what its supposed to do for you. You can papertrade any kind of Futures or Stocks with Futures-Trader. And thats more than some other Simulators offer.

You have your own piece of software written for trading. Great, I hope it is exactly what you needed for your trading. because that was the reason I developed Futures-Trader for me. I couldn't find a tradedesk which fit my style of trading. Then I met some real good traders and learned a lot from them for free. I also learned, that I needed to papertrade first, before I would be able to compete in the Futures-Pit. So I added the Simulator mode to Futures-Trader.

And I think, I'm not the only one in urgent need of papertrading. That's why I made Futures Trader available for free, for everyone, who wants to papertrade the Futures.

I hope this clarifies my intentions, and I'm sorry you felt misleaded, because you looked but did not get a tradedesk for free.
There are some good programs on the market, which allow trading your IB account for free, and I recommend them gladly, if they fit your style of trading. If you like Futures Trader and want to use it for your real trading, then you will need to pay a small one time fee.

croc. i used your software last week. very nice piece of work. its the best simulator ive ever seen. i encourage others to try it.i am considering the real time purchase. its well worth the 100 bucks.

Same for me - I've only used it for a a couple of days but like it very much.

After going over the various notes that are in your messages, and playing with it (the user interface is fairly intuitive) I already feel comfortable with it. As I mentioned in my e-mail, the product would benefit from a bit more documentation, concentrated in one place. This would help me know for sure that I am not missing anything, as I'm contemplating the transition from demo to real.

Still, this is an excellent work in progress and I congratulate you for offering it to the trading community. :)

Btw, can one set alerts within FT? ie, the bell to go off when I reach my target or hit my stoploss?
 
Good programming job, although I would really like it to be a bit less of a hog on the processor, as it sometimes slows down my SierraChart, especially in a fast market. No other program does that to SC.

Of course, I admit I use an inferior OS, Windows 98SE. :D
But at least it works for this OS and that is really great.
 
I'm looking to try the software, but just wanted to know if the charting takes its data from IB or do you need other feed? And if it is from IB does that mean you get gaps in the chart in times you arent logged on?

the minichart in FuturesTrader is just that a minichart. Its not designed to replace a chartprogram. FuturesTrader prints the chart when its online, when there is a time off, it can't request historical data, as IB does not deliver them.

Sorry no, at the moment you get no audio confirmation, when an action is taken. But its a good idea and I will add it to the ToDo list, to add this feature in the future.

I added ESignal-Support and thereby needed to add a further dll to Futurestrader.

The ESignal Datafeed support is working, but it needs further evaluation, so its beta for the moment.
In your Futurestrader folder is a new exe file named ESignalfeed3.exe
Make sure that the ESignal Datamanger is running, then start Futurestrader. Last start ESignalfeed3 and press Req Data
I suggest adding a link to it on your Desktop.

In Futurestrader switch from IB to ES Datafeed. If you click on clocks the grid right of the time-tool says ESignalfeed. You should see it counting upwards, while Futurestrader is receiving quotes from the ESignalfeed3.exe program.

You started this thread indicating this to be used to paper trade an existing IB account, but now mention E-signal support. Does this mean I could paper trade with it using my E-signal feed Without having an IB account? I haven't totaly decided on whether I'm going to go with IB yet, (even though I'm leaning that way), due to their infamous customer service reputation. Also, with IB, the only way to paper trade their TWS is with the TWS Demo which is delayed data and doesn't give market depth on e-minis.

If this were used in real time trading, how is the execution speed as compared to other platform like TWS, J-Trader and such? If I were using ab IB account data feed, does your platform display market depth?

Rah, yes you can use FuturesTrader now to papertrade without IB account, if you have an ESignal Datafeed. Contact me at croc1964@web.de if you have problems to get it running.

I can't comment on execution speed compared to J_Trader, as I don't use it. Between TWS entry or FuturesTrader entry is no measurable delay. So its just the IB execution speed which matters and which normally is ok here.
Market Depth is not displayed yet, as its a feature of the new API 7, which is still in Beta, and which is incompatible to API 6, which a lot of people are still using, as they use Brackettrader to trade live. When API 7 is released Futures Trader will of course support the display of Market Depth
