Futures Options

Hello, I have a few questions regarding futures options trading:

1. What is the best platform for futures options tradeing. Ideally the platform should have in-built tools, calculators, greeks, historical data, etc.

2. How liquid are the E-mini S&P options? Are they liquid overnight?

3. Are the big S&P options liquid overnight when they trade on GLOBEX?

4. How easy is it to submit spread orders for futures options: straddles, strangles, iron condors, etc. Playing aorund with the TOS demo platform it seems even basic spreads are not accepted?

5. Have people had better experience with pit trading or electronic for options i.e. for the S&P is it better to trade the big S&P via the pit or the e-mini electronically on GLOBEX?

6. What are compettive commission rates?

7. What have been people's expereices with the EOM E-mini S&P options. They seem quite illiquid.

8. Apart from the S&P what are the other liquid futures options?

9. Some have recommened the Hoadley options tool? Any other recommendations for options tools?

Many thanks for help with the above. Hopefully the answers will also lead to insightful exchanges that will help all.

Thank you.

TT, OEC, IB, TOS .. make sure your broker clears options... ie. Velocity does not. Try OEC.

2. How liquid are the E-mini S&P options? Are they liquid overnight? Current Month is liquid with 1-2 tick spreads RTH... spreads out wide overnight... still liquid but not competitive.

3. Are the big S&P options liquid overnight when they trade on GLOBEX?

4. How easy is it to submit spread orders for futures options: straddles, strangles, iron condors, etc. Playing aorund with the TOS demo platform it seems even basic spreads are not accepted?

CME offers select standard strategies: Time Spread, Price Spread, strangles, stradles.. Try OEC - contract setup - strategies.

5. Have people had better experience with pit trading or electronic for options i.e. for the S&P is it better to trade the big S&P via the pit or the e-mini electronically on GLOBEX?
Discretionary based on trading system... for algo trading globex.

6. What are compettive commission rates? $4 - $5 RT

7. What have been people's expereices with the EOM E-mini S&P options. They seem quite illiquid.

Benefits are No early assignments but you are at the mercy of the market makers and some wide spreads. Same liquid but not competitive or advantageously priced.

8. Apart from the S&P what are the other liquid futures options?
NQ, YM, Currencies: 6E... All CME futures offering options have market makers for liquidity albeit with some wide spreads.

9. Some have recommened the Hoadley options tool? Any other recommendations for options tools?

The exchanges employ market makers to maintain liquidity in alot of options. Emini options have decent markets overnight, not great. Here's a screenshot of pre-market today taken at 8:15 CST.
