Futures options questions

This is on an OEM demo.

How come when I SELL futures options my account gets debited? Doesn't selling options = instant credit?

And when I BUY futures options, it gets booked as a positive "Option P/L" immediately.

What am I missing here?

Sorry, I must have thought I was on a car forum (get it? OEM? n/m)

What does margin have to do with it? Wait, by BUYING an option, am I increasing my total margin temporarily?

I just bought some ES options right now and my account info says this:

Fut P/L: $0
Opt P/L: $4390
Realized P/L: $0
Total P/L: $4390

Cash: $45,217.50
Open P/L: $4,390
Net Liq: $49,607.50
Buying Power: $49,607.50
Initial Margin: 0
