That is just disgusting. Peep gingerbread men?

Well, your problem is understanding that tariffs is NOT THE ANSWER. Why do you find this concept so difficult to grasp?
Tariffs are never going to solve the IP problem.
Let's use an analogy. In my divorce, I had the great fortune of having to deal with government parental evaluation. The evaluator committed perjury, I had proof of it and so it could not go to trial otherwise this "very well respected person" would get career raped (tariff). I got the result I was after, 100% (free trade.)
The tariffs are a bargaining chip as far as I can see. Temporary pain, for perhaps, true free trade in the end. Unlikely, given all the opposition he is getting.

You're making a massive assumption that I don't think you're aware you're making. Sure, we'd all like China to have better control of IP, no-one disagrees with that. And sure, there's part of every trade agreement where the U.S., if you're looking at it from a U.S. centric viewpoint, could be getting a better deal. And sure, throwing up tariffs and starting a trade war is a way to try, operative word is try, to force the other side to give you a better deal then you have now. But guess what, there's a price to pay every time you start a war to achieve your objectives. And the price may very well far exceed any benefits you get, in fact it may far exceed any benefits you could get even if the other side capitulates entirely. For your convenience, I spelled it out. Here is another way to think about it: leverage.
...Is there anything anyone can do to effect this change in 2 years? Obviously, the answer is a big fat no...
OMG! I cannot believe I am reading this? Are you serious? nooby, I'm out of here. Have fun storming the castle!
The problem you have with being objective is you lost money on the deal. So you attack me repeatedly as if it affects me. I understand the pain you are in, but as you say it is a try. He may fail. And if he does, you can be happy in your correctness. If not, you can be happy otherwise. The idea that someone can change the world order against the desires of the current beneficiaries of the world order without being attacked is wishful thinking.
You've concluded that I'm wrong, that's fine. I want more free trade, so no tariffs, no subsidized industries. Is there anything anyone can do to effect this change in 2 years? Obviously, the answer is a big fat no. So I'm willing to wait and see. I'd rather be optimistic and fail than pessimistic and not try.
The truth is that it's special interest whiners like you who cause these absurd agreements to balloon. But more importantly (when I last looked at it) , major parts of the TPP removed sovereignty from the member nations. This itself should not be acceptable.
