New journal where I plan to post about my discretionary trading - https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/vals-discretionary-trading-journal.371384/
what is your return curve of automatic trading for 2022?
Hi Val,While many NDX stock being destroyed I looked at a pretty vanilla NDX rotational system for any resemblances with the previous tech bubble.
Current period we're in - 2020-2022 Feb looks very similar to 2000-2002 Feb. I can backtest this system over 30 years and for any periods other than those two it didn't not hit more than 8% DD. During those periods that happened 2 times within a span of a year, so DD pattern becomes somewhat of an identifiable characteristic. Last time a prolonged period of inactivity followed and it took it nearly 5 years to reach new highs accompanied by a general market decline for 2.5 years.
I run that system on a small account and expect it to be out of market for awhile soon. Might do a discretionary SQQQ long there.

Hi Val,
Thanks for all the great posts here. When I run the "off-the-shelf" ndx_rotate in RealTest, I get quite a few more drawdowns > 8% (outside the two time spans noted above). Can you give some direction on the modifications needed to limit the drawdowns as described?
is your model still working or you stopped trading the model? You can reduce size if you like the system. It's low trade count, very easy to overfit if you start adding too much stuff to it.

Don't have it handy. Net is slightly positive YTD and something like +30% for a recent corporate year end. I've hit some triggers that point out a revision is due but have no interest in spending too much time on that. Next 12 months will offer exceptional discretionary opportunities and prep + building positions that is where my focus is right now.
