Fully automated fast food restaurant opens in San Francisco

Here's a photo of the production line:

Actually it's not fully automated. Food prep still done by humans, just no cashier and they have it configured so it looks at first glance like nobody is home.

Strikingly similar to the Automat my parents took me to in Manhattan as a child. More for the novelty than the quality of the food as I came from a large Italian family that took their cooking seriously. I'm sure the food is a notch above today, though. I do, however, see a shift in labor costs as the impending $15.00/hour rule approaches.

Yes, and the Dutch seem to still love this automat concept. It is particularly popular in late night venues, crowded quick serve time/place, sports/concert/conference venues...

But the Dutch concept never adheres to just a vegan or certain ethnic serving. With much success, they usually run both vegan and non vegan, both Caribbean and Asian (along with local EU & US), both adult and kids fair etc...
