Friday's Volume (June 23rd)

Hi,

Relative newbie here...

I follow individual stock volume on a regular basis...and Friday's volume was off the charts.

And not really company specific...lots of volume...exceeding well above average volume on something like 1000 of the Russell 3000 constituents.

Was this some type of event...like near end of quarter...window dressing?

What am I missing?

Technical Analysis (TA) indicates that the whole market is overbought, so everybody tries to get out (closing pos) or goes short by opening new positions --> volumes rise big in such clear-looking market situations...

Nearly all TA indicators/oscillators confirm the current overbought situation.

Russell 3000 - there are ishares Russell 3000, Vanguard Russell 3000,
Vanguard Russell 3000 ETF....


June 23rd was one of the dullest dates for trading (ie low volume).

Friday = Money Day. The same like every each week.

You are exactly right .... about the Russell indexes.

Not very high actually.

Take my Meds?...Not happening!

Which stocks? That'd take about 2 hours...don't have time for that.

I crunch the numbers nightly with Excel®...takes about 40 minutes.

Easily...about 750 or more of the Russell 3000 constituents had exceedingly high volume...above their average daily volume.

Volume spike percentages of 300%, 500%, 1000%, 3000%, etc. above average...were commonplace.

Thanks SunTrader...your Forbes article clarified the phenomenon:

"Funds and institutional investors that track the various Russell indexes are forced to buy stocks being added to the indexes and sell stocks being removed."

SAME with TQQQ/ spy/
above average sell 50dma volume. But not qqq or SPXL so that just goes to prove FRI= payday someday, but not for all of them.
Not so much drama on '' volume off the charts''LOL
This week is closer to quarter end.
Try moving averages on volume if you are serious/ ''off the charts,'' with all due respect tells us nothing.
With mondays sell volume in SPY+ qqq benchmark below average thats bullish;
even more so in a bull market. I took profits on TQQQ for reason i dont care to get into+ vol was not much of a factor/or some buys on SSO
