Finally, a decent integrated charting package for IB TWS.
Loaded the TWS-beta, and installed the MC.net for IB plugin. For charting it works nice. I use licensed MC for order entry and it works fine, so I imagine the MC-net order entry to be equivalent.
As I have transitioned to longer term trading, I no longer have a need for ButtonTrader, in which case I would recommend BT over MC.
Not sure MC-IB is worth an additional $39/month for the custom indicators & trading capability for those that already own an MC license. For those who don't have a front end it is a nice option.
Caveat being that IB is limited on backfill and longer term analysis requires additional datafeed. in the MC-IB there is no quotemanager, so I assume a 3rd party datafeed is not an option.
For those that are cost conscience the monthly fee may be better applied to Button Trader, or perhaps a lifetime license for MC/Ninja i.e. multiple brokers and ability to load dedicated datafeeds, etc... for those who treat it as a business, it is nice convenience and wouldn't think twice about subscribing.
I use multiple systems throughout my home to monitor price and it is a welcome feature.
Up to this point I have been needing to disconnect [transfer digital rights of MC] whenever I relocated, and with IB I always receive the pacing violation error [delay] it isn't the end of the world but definitely a nuisance. The pacing violation's remain on initial load of multiple instruments etc..., however, the fact MC no longer needs to be disconnected makes pacing violation a moot point.
The new Medved Trader is also a very nice solution for backup monitoring [trading when it is finally enabled]. At the projected price of $10/month it is very reasonable, reliable charting option.
So far, nothing but good things to say about the responsiveness of the Medved developer. He is providing a quality product with excellent product support. I will remain a customer as well.
In any event, it is nice to have redundancy. I would recommend both MC and Medved trader to those needing a charting solution.
But definitely a thumbs up for IB to bite the bullet and provide something less archaic for charting.
Now if IB would only buy out Hoi and integrate Button Trader... hint, hint
