Pfft, people are bitchin about nothing again.
I spend $60 / week on groceries, and that's having them delivered to me mind you (from freshdirect.com).
So that's $3120 / year, and that's with me buying good shit. If I were to be cheap and go to the grocery store and farmer's market myself, I could probably cut like 10 - 20% off that figure.
So, 3K / year, let's see..
I spend $27.6K / year on rent
Have a car that's depreciating at $10K / year, that I barely drive
Spend $3.8K / year on metrocards/metro-north monthly passes to get to work
Just spent > $3K at brooks brothers for 2 suits, a pair of shoes, and some other crap for job interviews.
Probably blow another 1K / month on stupid shit and going out for drinking
So yeah, if food prices "explode" by 20 - 30%, I could give a shit, I'd be more worried about rent moving up 5 - 10%.
And yeah, I'm "middle-class" and feel ZERO pressure from food prices.
