Fox's Shep Smith fact-checks Trump's Amazon claims: 'None of that was true'

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith on Tuesday fact-checked President Trump's claim that the U.S. Postal Service was losing large amounts of money because Amazon was using it to deliver packages at low cost.

"The Post Office is losing billions of dollars, and the taxpayers are paying for that money because it delivers packages for Amazon at a very below cost," Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday.

"That's not fair to the United States, and it's not fair to out taxpayers, and Amazon has the money to pay the fair rate at the Post Office," he continued.
Trump went on to say the Post Office "loses $1.47 on every package" it delivers on behalf of Amazon.

Smith responded to each of Trump's claims on Tuesday.

"The Postal Service's own numbers show it makes money by delivering packages for Amazon and other companies. As for taxpayers, the Post Office's own website points out, and I quote, 'The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses.' None," Smith said.

"And a reference to that $1.47 the president came up with there? A Citigroup study last year showed on average that the Postal Service was charging a $1.46 below market rates for package delivery, but our researchers point out if that discount exists, it's not just for Amazon, it's a bulk-rate discount," he continued.

"There is a great deal of confusion, or something, here regarding Amazon and the Post Office because none of that, none of that was true," Smith told Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts.

The emperor for a turn has no clothes.

He confused two really clearly separate figures there? And a personal vendetta?

There is no cleverness in this, it just makes America look moronic and weak.

shep smith once again does not know shit.
no one knows the contracts and no one really knows how to calculate the costs completely.

so says the washington post..

That’s because incremental cost accounting ignores the common costs (or what the Postal Service calls “institutional” costs) that can’t easily be attributed to any one customer or any one line of business — regular first class “letter” mail, for example, or second class newspapers and magazines, or third-class catalogues.

both trump and shep could be wrong.
in fact everyone who has an opinion could be wrong... now that I think about it.

when a entity is subsidized by the federal govt because they lose money... it would not be surprising if they could not tell if they are losing money or making money on an Amazon contract.

Let's assumes this is true, that still makes Trump's claim a complete fabrication.

I have only put 3 minutes into this... but at the moment I would say not a complete fabrication because I think there was an article supporting the idea... but lets just say his statement lacked support.

He has pattern of early statements without great support. Sort of like you except his is president and you are paid to be that way.

I remember when he blamed Obama for tapping the wires at Trump tower. Mark Levine put it together from media reports and Trump seems to have tweeted that. . You team all went nuts on him for weeks maybe months. It turns out Levine looks to like he will be vindicated. With it becoming more and more obvious there was illicit wire tapping or spying going on.

Perhaps trump could turn out to be right on this one. perhaps not. I don't really have a dog in this hunt. I like Amazon but I also like small business owners and I see arguments for both.

At least I have skills that can be paid for, you make up shit to defend that lying piece of shit and fail every time. I doubt anyone would hire you with the skill set you put on display here.

Ya vindicated, Trump's own DOJ called Trump and Levine a liar, when is this vindication coming? It's like Uranium One, just a lot of smoke, lots of accusations but nothing actually happens, no actual evidence that can be used to prosecute anyone.

The number one thing Fox could do to improve their channel would be to fire Shep Smith. He has to be their most unpopular anchor. He keeps his job for one reason only and we all know that.
