Quote from kmgilroy89:
Not everywhere is as densely populated as the South Bronx. In Newtown, CT we have 5 volunteer fire departments that cover about 60 square miles with the police department in the middle of town. When a house is burning down there isn't much time to waste waiting for them to get down to your district. The idea that the fire company should wait for the police to respond before they get out of their trucks is absurd.
Actually the police ride on the fire trucks or permanently escort first responders - there is no wait to respond. Utility workers must make appointments for police escort and meet at police sub-stations to proceed to the work site. You may want to note that most areas of the U.S. are far more crime free than the south Bronx.
The overall point is that there are already places in the U.S. where first reponders and firemen have police escorts and all the schools have armed police & metal detectors. Trying to act as either of these is unheard of is absurd. Go to any urban area and it is common.
