Most of us have suspected it for a while.
Alien intervention would explain a lot of the weird events of this year such as Coranavirus, Brexit, and that time I slipped when there were definitely no banana skins or patches of oil on the pavement. However they may not be completely malicious because I also feel they're responsible for other stuff like rainbows and that delicious smell of fish n chips with vinegar wrapped in newspaper.
So in summary: yes we are in contact with aliens, but the aliens are neither 100% good nor 100% bad.

Personally, I think the aliens take one look at how messy humanity is and hurry out of the solar system.
