Forex , its addiction ?

cause they want to make 10x their capital in a year and with 95% leverage with forex it 's possible. so it's not addicting. they enjoy the game and it is possible due to the massive leverage in forex.

it's not addicting like heroin or meth it's more like video game addiction or TV addiction etc. these people can quit gambling overnight with no physical withdrawal symptoms like hardcore drugs and no physical or psychological side effects like some drugs.
they choose not to quit same with some drug users. they don't want to quit.

it's a hobby or past time like many seniors in casinos playing slot machines it's 99% seniors over 75 years of age in a Sunday morning playing slot machines,,not one person under 30 in the casino playing slots in a sunday morning
 
but i must also add that i spent 13 years learning to trade 5 min which is one of the most difficult time frames to trade......

research has shown that given two choices: one with a much more likely win but small reward and another with unlikely win but huge reward most people choose the latter option.

that said most experts who teach and many who dont, say it took them 8-10 years to become profitable.
especially for short term /day trading with leverage. where you need precise entrys and exits.

but 12 years ago, forex was widely mentioned and very popular.
look at GBP. it dropped from 2.1 on 4Q07 to 1.3 on 1Q09 ie 40% drop in just few months.

most forex traders want action......and unless you trade huge volumes-which is possible because of tame movement- you get impatient and so it is NOT suitable for day trading.

i have shifted to gold after 13 years in forex and have become profitable after just 2 months of trading gold
 
forex is very difficult to trade and doesn't move much. and leverage is only way that traders can make money in trading forex cause the rates don't change. the exchange rate is the same for months. or 1% is considered a big change for one day. stocks move like 5%-10% a day. min. for penny stocks and 25% for options.

Between 1983 to 2003 ( 2 decades !), gold was also very tame.
we had to look around for things that were moving.

it is still very tame in the sense it does not trend one way........but i have found it's fluctuations very logical which was not the case with most of forex.

i found i am not patient for one way trends

yes you have to use leverage properly and get your entry exit perfect.......i never made it in forex tried for 13 years

then saw that the margin for gold and eurusd were the same with my broker and changed to gold...doing a lot better in gold
 
its a nice topic , by the way i think people we have cant leave this place in spite of doing losses , because they know the reality, we lose from here due to own mistake , market always follows its own style.
 
i have been trading into Forex for a long time , honestly speaking i am not a complete profitable trader but i trade most of the time, this topic is very similar to me.
