Foreigners are fascinated with our politics. Why?

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

The question is a reasonable question.

The need to employ an internal power of IP address collection by a moderator to ask the question is not reasonable, IMO.

A poll could have been posted achieving roughly the same results to the question, i.e. why do people comment on the politics, culture, etc. of countries that are not their own?

Americans and their foreign policy is a huge offender of the politics of other sovereign nations, the Bush invasion and military coup of Saddam Hussein and Iraq is a good example of how people justify their actions in the name of their own nationalism.

It is dangerous precedent we have set, and it will come back to bite the USA at some point beyond the damage it has already done.

We live on the same planet, so naturally the politics of a country can impact their neighboring countries.

I could have asked people, I suppose, but it is unlikely that all would tell the truth. I know you wouldn't.

I could not imagine caring enough about Canadian or UK politics to find some board and @&%& about their politics.

This is what made me wonder about the whole idea in the first place. I can't imagine caring enough for other country's politics either.

Quote from Ivanovich:

Ok, here is the summary for those posting anger against liberals, the President, the current government and the US:

Of eight...

One using a proxy, so I cannot be sure without a lot of homework.
Seven from the US. (Florida, California, Colorado, Michigan...etc.)
At the risk of being presumptuous I'll figure I'm one of the eight.

Georgia here, about 40 miles north of Atlanta in case anyone wants some face to face time.

Don't you think this is an invasion of privacy?
You're a fucking drama queen.

Quote from Ivanovich:

I suppose. When I was living in Latin America, the locals preferred to go on their own sites and discuss politics. They screamed at each other the same way, but it was all local politics. Sure, the US was mentioned (I think all politics affects or is affected by the US). But for the most part, they hung out on their sites. Same as when I lived in Russia.

That's kinda what my questions were driving at. There's over 6 billion people on Earth who are foreigners (to us), and I seriously doubt a very significant number of them discuss US politics.

I could not imagine caring enough about Canadian or UK politics to find some board and @&%& about their politics. Obviously the liberty in the USA still holds the interest and attention of people around the world.

Of course you as an American wouldn't care about Canadian or UK politics. They have little to no effect on the lives of Americans. Conversely, the politics of the USA has a major impact on the rest of the world.

It is not about interest in the alleged liberty of the USA, it is due to American media shoving American politics down our throat 24/7. I know people in Canada who have no idea who the leader of the opposition is in Canada. But you bet your ass they've heard of Sarah Palin (who is relevent because......?). When you see and hear it everyday, it becomes a topic of conversation.

I am sorry, but I do not understand why it is difficult to see why other countries care about USA politics but USA cares little for other countries' politics. It is perfectly logical.

This type of candid and honest response is refreshing. Thank you.

Beautiful Minnesota here.

Minnesota... Land of 10,000 Lakes... where the mosquitoes are big enough to tote off your brogans...
