Foreigners are fascinated with our politics. Why?

I agree the question is reasonable.

However, the collection of IP addresses by a moderator and then using that data in his question as evidence, I don't see as reasonable.

This is an international site, we have lots of people come here and voice their opinion, some about America not Americans, some Americans about Muslim countries in the middle east, some Americans about the politics of Israel...this is common, but the need to collect IP addresses and locations to use for personal reasons?

That we have opinions of non Americans about American politics is some grand revelation? It needed checking IP addresses to confirm this belief? Why is it that Americans are so afraid of the opinions of "foreigners" anyway?

A much better question, IMO.

Quote from Kassz007:

I see this thread as a rational, reasonable question being asked by Ivan. Why do foreigners care so much about US politics?

Come on guys, this is an easy answer...
USA is the most influential country on the face of the Earth. It's policies have a direct impact on arguably every other country. To ignore USA politics is to ignore potential risks or opportunities in everyone's own country. It's a no-brainer. If any other country was as big and influential as the USA, the rest of the world would be following THEIR politics. It has nothing to do with obsession over USA politics, and everything to do with obsession over the world leader's politics.

Furthermore, speaking as a Canadian living in Canada, we share many of the same television programs, most of which are American. These television programs CONSTANTLY are jamming USA politics down everyone's throat, so it is impossible to ignore.

Why are foreigners fascinated with USA politics? Simple answer: we have to be.

The USA will annex Canada and Mexico.
Even the uneducated Canadians feel this coming.
Though it will look like each nation has a level of say so ... it will be the the USA in control.

They have been more socialist and believe in it more than than we do as a nation.
[We are less brainwashed]
They are pissing and moaning now because when they are annexed ... their voice won't count.

Their efforts at this point are not based on what is right or educated but some deep animal reaction.

It would be nice to hear from some of the educated conservative Canadians versus those who haven't a clue.

Unfortunately the Annex will be a debt bubble expansion that solves North Americas "created problems."

I agree that this was over the top and irrelevant, but the question is valid. In any case, who cares if he looked at locations by IP addresses?

The question is a reasonable question.

The need to employ an internal power of IP address collection by a moderator to ask the question is not reasonable, IMO.

A poll could have been posted achieving roughly the same results to the question, i.e. why do people comment on the politics, culture, etc. of countries that are not their own?

Americans and their foreign policy is a huge offender of the politics of other sovereign nations, the Bush invasion and military coup of Saddam Hussein and Iraq is a good example of how people justify their actions in the name of their own nationalism.

It is dangerous precedent we have set, and it will come back to bite the USA at some point beyond the damage it has already done.

We live on the same planet, so naturally the politics of a country can impact their neighboring countries.

I consider myself an educated, conservative Canadian, and can honestly say that you have no clue what you're talking about. USA going to annex the entire continent? Get a grip.

Canada has been slowly diversifying from the USA for quite a while now, both economically and culturally.

You think the rest of the world would stand by and accept the USA now owning North America? The rest of the world hates the USA enough now as it is. Why would they go and piss off two of their only friends?

Ok, here is the summary for those posting anger against liberals, the President, the current government and the US:

Of eight...

One using a proxy, so I cannot be sure without a lot of homework.
Seven from the US. (Florida, California, Colorado, Michigan...etc.)

Not sure if I am one of your eight, but yeah I am from the States (North Carolina).

I could not imagine caring enough about Canadian or UK politics to find some board and @&%& about their politics. Obviously the liberty in the USA still holds the interest and attention of people around the world.

Just messin' with ya.

Though it is a real agenda by the power brokers. Trilaterals etc.

Quote from Ricter:

Rather mundane reasons that spring to mind:

English speaking.
Proximity access to US based media.
Business in the US marketplace.
Significant free time.

I suppose. When I was living in Latin America, the locals preferred to go on their own sites and discuss politics. They screamed at each other the same way, but it was all local politics. Sure, the US was mentioned (I think all politics affects or is affected by the US). But for the most part, they hung out on their sites. Same as when I lived in Russia.

Quote from Ivanovich:

Lucrum made me wonder about this the other day when he and Gabfly were sparring in the most recent (you-suck-no-you-suck) thread in this forum. He mentioned Gabfly was Canadian, which I gather is true since Gabfly acknowledged and accepted it. His overall argument was essentially, why should you care so deeply about American politics, our President, etc., if you're not even living in America (though his words were a bit more uncivil)? I thought it was a rather good question.

So I went through to the most vocal critics of America, Republicans, Conservatives, etc., and I checked their IPs and did a rather extensive lookup. Of the 10 most vocal in the P+R forum, only TWO were definitely posting from the USA.

One was using a proxy, so it is impossible to tell without a lot of homework.
One was posting from India.
FIVE were posting from Canada.
One was posting from the U.K.

What shocked me is the number of Canadians, some of which are exceptionally vocal about the Teaparty, Conservatives, Republicans, and the US in general.

I am going to look up those conservatives who are vocally against Obama next. I won't post who is from where (for either side), because that's a private matter. But I'll be general about it like I was above.

I did find it interesting that so many non-Americans are here supporting the democrats. I admit to not understanding why that is.

If someone would explain it, I'd certainly be interested in hearing.

I am not surprised. Living in the USA would probably change some of the views and force them to become more conservative instead of screaming about teabaggers, etc. Thanks for the detective work.
