For the retards who claim only realised profits count

It comes down to the probability of the profit being there the 'next day'.

Counting 10 ticks intraday as profit would be presumptuous.

But reasonable to count unrealized profit as profit, say for a large proportion of a position that's up 50% over the year.

Will trading profits deposited as cash into a Greek bank be realized profits tomorrow?

The problem with unrealized profits, is that they can fairly easily become realized losses.

It actually goes both ways, I often hold volatile positions over a few weeks and wild swings are usual, sometimes for the better.

Fair enough, it depends on the liquidity of the market, those who counted mtm profits on Spanish real estate investments before the market went dry have been in for a surprise for instance.
As of the greek banks bit, if you have more than a couple of bucks to park, it brings its share of headache to find out a place where the money is both safe and easy to use.

Well, account is big enough to take a few days of similar battering, but then I'll need to wire in to be safe (which would not be good for the holiday plans)
I do adjust total exposure almost daily though, after a loss I will reduce both shorts and longs, longs slightly more than shorts.
FWIW I'm getting used to such swings, it was just particulary odd yesterday coupled with a 6 digit realized gain - and as usual with wine I get more chatty than I'd wished the next day.

sure, in your paper trading account?

Absolutely, and trading from my parents backyard, which is an improvement over their cellar as I'm now able to nick the neighbours' internet connection.
I hope some fellow ETer will be able to help me once I blow the paper account and need to reset it with a proper balance.
