For multiple monitor users

Quote from LEAPup:

I didn't post this in the hardware area as the question is what do you monitor on your monitors, and why?

Ha! I know you didn't post this in the hardware forum... but it got bounced back to the hardware forum just the same! :)

All I want to say is nobody needs to justify to no one. If having multiple monitors can help you, just do it. If you can do everything with one screen, good for you.

great thread idea, i'm really curious to see what people have on their screens. i've only had 4 lcds for less than a year so this is a work in progress.

2 x 2 setup + laptop. day trade equities.

top left..

- two stock scanner windows, two status windows (scanner status and chat room), DIA and QQQ.
- this is my least viewed window, scanners give me alerts every 5 minutes

top right.

- linked set.. order entry, 5min chart, daily chart, watch list, L2, T&S
- SPY 5min
- this is meant to be a mirror of my primary window where i can flip to a stock, have it line up with a SPY chart directly above as well as L2, T&S and Daily chart

bottom left

- 5min charts - AAPL, NFLX, SPY
- 5min + linked order entry, 3 random charts (set them before the open)
- pandora or windows media player
- charts of stocks i'm watching closely to set up, can tee up orders but not send them until i feel the time is right

bottom right (my primary screen)

- linked set.. order entry, 5min chart, daily chart, watch list, L2, T&S
- p&l
- trading monitor
- 2 chat rooms + floating private message windows
- trade calculator
- primary window where i do all my flipping between charts, chatting and order mgmt.
- clock!

laptop
- facebook + browsing
- backup charting (freestockcharts.com)
- remote desktop into scanner server for backup charting and demark indicators
More like this, btw, what chat rooms...

When I started this thread in the trading section, my intentions were to see what multi monitor TRADERS were looking at each day.

I was interested in seeing what for example, a spot Fx trader monitors, a day, swing, position equities trader monitors, options traders, even guys trading ag futures, etc.,

I thought it would be interesting to see what each style of trader spends a large amount of time in front of, and why. i.e., "I have my open positions on a daily, hourly and fifteen minute chart, as well as other equities in that industry group, etc., while monitoring bond yields, VIX, etc., I do this because of ___, ____, and ____..."
The list could go on.

I appreciate your post (and the others) I don't know why a mod would move this thread from trading (high traffic) to hardware (low traffic), as the thread was supposed to be a discussion of why we monitor what we do while TRADING. I didn't mean for it to be a hardware thread.

Another ET milestone .....

the losses are so big that more than one monitor is required.

You are the funniest guy on ET, no question!:D

I'll remember that statement as on a down day I can say, "guess I'll kick myself in the ass for each monitor." :D

Yes, if I could get it done with one screen, I'd do it in a ny minute. Just doesn't work for me.
