For all of the Israel haters...

Quote from dddooo:

the majority of the Jews and Jewish groups accepted the proposal, in particular the Jewish Agency, which was the Jewish state-in-formation. A minority of extreme nationalist Jewish groups like Menachem Begin's Irgun Tsvai Leumi and Yitzhak Shamir's Lehi, (known as the Stern Gang) which had been fighting the British, rejected it.

What part of "a vast majority of jews " do you not understand?

Well, well, well!! I see that you are using the wikipedia site again!! Let me guess, you wrote the above piece before you pasted it here??

But you know what, I will ASSUME that you did not and that another person on that site wrote it.

In 1947, was there any consensus that the majority of Jews accepted the proposal??

In 1947, the Jewish population in Palestine was 608,000 (35% of the total population according to British consensus)were granted 55% of the land while 1,237,000 Palestinians were granted 45%.

Afterward, against the british well, hundreds of thousands of Haganah ready sympathizers arrived at our beaches and were handed weapons upon arrival and enlisted in the Haganah.

In 1948, in Ben Gurion's attempt to capture Jerusalem, which was supposed to be considered as an international city according to the proposal you claim that you have accepted, he called to arms 350,000 armed men and women. These are irregulars under arm, not people who agreed to accept the plan.

Further more, the Haganah and Stern were not small terrorist groups as you claim, they were, the nuke of your Israeli army and produced 3 of your prime ministers and 10s of high ranking israeli officers and politicians.

It was after the 1967 War that the word "Palestinian" began to be used to differentiate the Arab of the Palestinian region from the other Arabs of the region, eg the Egyptians, the Syrians, etc.

Very true!! Like I call a guy from Khalil a Khalili and a guy from Nablus, a Nabilsy and a guy from Gaza a Gazawey!! These are all part of the bigger land which is Palestine!!

Zuhayr Muhsin, the leader of the Syrian-funded as-Sa'iqa Palestinian faction and its representative on the PLO Executive Committee, told a Dutch newspaper in 1977 that "There is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese.

Zuhair Muhsin represented a Fascist ideology created by a Christian Syrian and adopted by a party called "The Syrian National Socialist party" such ideology was followed by some people in parts of what they used to call "Greater Syria" (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine) that belives that the people of that region are physically and mentally to all others.

I too consider myself as part of the greater Syrian region though I do not belive in the superiority part.

On 29 November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted a plan for the partition of Palestine into two economically united but politically sovereign states, one Jewish and the other Arab, with Jerusalem as an international city. The Arabs of Palestine, aided by brethren across the frontiers, at once rose up in arms to thwart partition. The Jews accepted the plan; on 14 May 1948, the last day of the mandate, they proclaimed the formation of the State of Israel. The next day, the Arab League states—Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Sa'udi Arabia, and Syria—launched a concerted armed attack.

The UN set up a special committee which recommended splitting the territory into separate Jewish and Palestinian states. Palestinian representatives, known as the Arab Higher Committee, rejected the proposal; their counterparts in the Jewish Agency accepted it.

You claim that Palestine wants peace, yet all they have to do is recognize Israel as a state. Not only that , they would also get their foreing aid back.

Can somebody give a logiacl answer as to why they won't recognize Israel?

P.S. Sorry for getting political.

Does Israel want peace?

Do you think it is just the Palestinians who have a beef with Israel, or also the rest of the world (apart from America) who care for human rights and nuclear proliferation?

Does Israel even care about these two points?

Do you think a more balanced thread would result from the discussion of broader issues concerning Israels conduct, rather than the same old tired issues of Palestine and Israel?

Was the intention of this thread to start an intelligent discussion, or simply to bait the same old faces into hurling insults about the same old issues?

Is there nothing else to do?

Who thinks Steve46 makes a valid point?

Just some questions, but I don't think they will be answered honestly with an open mind. Do you?

Their acceptance of the partition of Palestine in 1948 - guess what, jews were not too thrilled with it either but were willing to accept a compromise. Peace with Jordan, peace with Egypt, Clinton sponsored peace negotiations with palestinians that Arafat walked away from... So what do you think?

That you killed a Prime minister over and walked away from.
