Fooking Canada produces more jobs than USA last month!!

Quote from Random.Capital:

Interesting comment, given that the bulk of the work and sacrifice in bringing down the Reich came from the uber-socialist Soviets.

They had no choice.

Quote from WS_MJH:

Conservative vs. Socialist governments, enough said.

too bad N-obama is a re-thug-lican on the right.

guantanomo open: check
new libyan war: check
higher deficit: check

everything shows N-obama acts as a re-thug-lican.

Quote from gtor514:

How long before they put up a fence to keep out the Americans who are looking for jobs, opportunity and a better way of life?

Weird that you mention that. I was just questioning if this is the best country to raise a family in. I will visit Canada to see how things are done over there.

it took the german invasion of russia to push russia on the side of the allies. it was american and british efforts that led to victory in world war II

54,000 jobs in Canada, double what USA produced. What a joke.

adjust that number for Canada's population size and the number becomes 540,000. i.e. 30X

Quote from Random.Capital:

Canadian Conservatives are to the left of mainstream US liberals.

Canadian Conservatives are more fiscal conservatives than anything else. Social policies are largely center. This is the way I like it.

Quote from WS_MJH:

This is mostly wrong. You are right in that Canadian conservatives don't campaign on rolling back the structural socialism of universal health care.

However, on economic conservatism, Harper has done some tax cuts and promised to do more. On fiscal conservatism, ie balanced budgets, Canada as a whole is to the right of even the Republican Party. They're very pro-business, unlike Maobama. On social issues, they as a whole are conservative but don't campaign or do anything in the area because Canada is very liberal socially. But on economic issues, Canadian Conservatives are not far behind the Republicans.

I think right now Canadians are mostly on the same page with what we want from our government, as evidenced from the last election that resulted in a majority Conservative government.

Smaller government, lower taxes, a balanced budget. Social policies are mostly center. Conservative ideology is more right of center technically, but Canadians have no interest in changing the core values of the country (universal healthcare, abortion, gay marriage, etc.).

Quote from Random.Capital:

Unfortunately modern American conservatism has nothing to do with balanced budgets, it has become strictly about low taxes. By US standards, Canada is a high tax society, with a tiny military, therefore it is "left" and "liberal", regardless of fiscal discipline.

I don't agree that this is a sensible way to define the terms, but what can I do, praxis trumps theory. Which is too bad, because by traditional definitions Canada is generally more conservative than the US.

In terms of taxes, I think there is a bias based on what was happening in Canada during the 90's. Right now, taxes in Canada are no higher than the USA.
