Flying first class and not coach, why?

if i can save $12,000 by choosing economy over the first class and turn around and donate $12000 to 'CorridorRescue' type operation that saves abandoned pets in Texas...............then that would make me really really really happy and satisfied and increase my self esteem many times over than by flying first class.

am happy in coach class if it suits my wallet or makes the boss of the department happy.

:D :)

Sorry, but I have to fly coach, I won't fly. I just don't like squishing in like a sardine next to some jerk. 1st class is worth every penny to me. It just depends on what you value, and I value my elbow room, and I like to be treated with a smile. It also makes it a lot easier to get the flight attendants phone number.

Everyone gets treated with a smile, not just those on first class.

have you tried to fly coach on a 14 hr cross atlantic flight sitting between 2 fat guys breathing and snoring.....

coach to business is definitely worth it on those long flights, although i dont see much point going from business to first class...it only has marginal improvements.

Quote from Sanaz3:

A friend of mine, who is a university professor, travels overseas alot. He told me, even though the university and/or other organizations pay for his flights and hotels, He always prefers the cheapest tickets and the average hotel room. He said he once wanted to fly to Brussels from Toronto, and a round-trip ticket was over $7,000 first class and around $2,200 regular/coach. He said He could have booked either and be compensated for as long as he presented the receipt and a copy of the booking. So he had chosen to book the regular ticket instead. Not that he hates the first class's comfort, no, but he said it's just so unfair to pay that much money.

So, I have always wondered why people would book first/business class tickets for 3-4 times as much as a regular one? Do they want to pretend that they can afford it? Or would it just kill them to fly in the coach section?

I believe the first/business class is a complete rip-off, no matter how you slice it.

I disagree with your moral of the story. Buying the coach/economy ticket doesn't mean one can't afford the first class, their time is not valuable, they are non-productive, socialist, and feel bad at the sight of inequality....
obviously.

but, if you happen to be a non-productive socialist professor who has to pull out his tampon to dry his tears at the sight of inequality... well then, for certain: coach is definitely for you.

and that my friend was the moral of my story... as such, it is infallible, and cannot be disagreed with.

<6 hours coach. >6hours first class.

I dont fly much since the TSA took over(those drones can suck it!) But when I do thats my formula.

The perks listed are nice, but the pre-boarding stuff is also important. People absolutely pay full price for that privilege but we know we're overpaying.

I normally fly privately; I put ~200 hrs. on the airplane last year. I have ~50 on it this year. I have to fly commercial tomorrow to NY and I'm dreading it, especially since the shortest flight (time) means going on a cheap airline with no additional services. I also have to drive to an airport that significantly further from my house.

The thought of having to be at the airport early, so that I can get through security, and then seat with my thumb up my ass until it's time to board is making me sick.

The only good news is that once I'm done with that leg, I'll be flying private again. I'll be going NY-VT, Saturday from VT to WI with a stop in MI. I think we'll head to Toronto on Wed and I don't know the rest of the schedule. The flexibility and comfort are so nice that I don't really care what it cost... when I fly first class, it's often cheaper than flying private.

Oh bother... Bill Gates and Warren Buffett both fly coach all the time. Any other reason to fly business/first class (save medical conditions) is just bragging about how tiny our (business) bank account really is.
