Florida: Palm Beach or Miami Beach

BYW...the only panther I've seen was at the Dreher Park Zoo in W. Palm....Snakes are around but Ive yet to see a rattler or coral....same with scorpions....had one in our office once and in my first apartment....but the worst of all in my opinion is the baseball sized Palmetto bugs.......thats what floridians call them but they are a ROACH!

I'm taking the dog for a walk one morning and I notice a huge area of dried blood on the street.

WTF is this I think...Next day my neighbor tells me that the construction guys ran over a huge rattler that had come out of the marsh and gutted it for the meat.

Welcome to Jacksonville Florida!

I can handle all those. We have all of them. Best of all are the Nutria. These are oversides sewer rats which can get up to 65 lbs, most are around 30-40. Anyway, to keep the rats under control, the state offers a $2 reward per tail you bring in. Naturally, you have a lot of rednecks with guns who go out and hunt these things.

I have nothing wrong with population control, but I'm not sure if you are supposed to use semi-auto weapons against rats in a residential neighborhood. They're put a good many bullet holes in my windows. All night long you see cops with their guns and flashlights doing laps down the drainage things.

If you can handle that......?

Thanx guys. I'm going to Miami after the gras to get a place.

I don't think you'll see a Black Panther until it's too late. I think the only dangerous spot is that highway called Alligator Ally. Drove down there once, they have signs warning of Black Panthers and Gators, suggesting to stay in vehicle if it breaks down.

Guys,

I am going to be leaving new orleans in a few months. Both Miami Beach and Palm beach are serious steps up in all standards of living. I have spent a few days in each. I am curious, for those of you who live there, which do you think is better.

I am looking for a place that will have many other traders. More importantly, I want to be somewhere that has many other hedge funds who I can become friendly with. As you know, New Orleans has none. Any idea on the number and sizes of various hedge funds in either?

Crime, how bad is crime really down in miami beach.

How are the civil services, will I have a bitch time keeping my internet running, or running a serious trading desk here from Miami Beach? I assume that I will have no problems from Palm Beach

Entertainment, is there anything at all to do in Palm beach? I went to Climatis street and was bored stiff. I need a lot more action than that.

I would appreciate any thoughts that you have. I want to make a decision within like 48 hours and I am torn between the two.

Thankyou for your time,

Harris:.

Here's a great site to check crime statistics of any city.

What part of Florida is alligator alley in?

You guys are joking, right?

Alligator alley is a hell of a lot more dangerous for the snakes, gators, and panthers than the people. You could camp out for your entire life in the everglades and never see a native panther. They are all dead except for a questionable population of something below breeding stock req's.

The most dangerous thing in Florida imo is a senile driver who runs a red light. That's where you're gonna get taken out. Or perhaps a deranged sugar farmer who was just realized the US Gov't just let a pound of Australian sugar into the country and is looking to kill someone.

Florida is one screwed up state.

I would also reccomend this.....although the beach has its flair; it may not be where you actually want to live ( only party, girl watch and beach ).....by far the best places to live are:

Coconut Grove; Key Biscayne; Brickell; Coral Gables....and like Walter said; it is a hop skip and a jump to SOBE....good luck

Why those places. What would you say about each one. And what about Boca Raton for a place to live, and Aventura also. Also, what are the race sensetive places to stay away from. I like the ethnic/culteral mix - warmer.

How is the bug problem in Florida? How about fire ants, snakes, and panthers?Recommendations of where to stay away from?

... you don't like "spiders and snakes?"

Only thing you need worry about is HUMIDITY ( lots of it ) and Them Crazy Cubans.....:D

I hear the Cuban women are cute. Are the Cuban men jealous about them, keep them for themselves only. I don't want to start a fracas when I get there.
