Anyone have any experience with this?

Cash-settled salmon futures.

I read somewhere that they trade on the NASDAQ exchange...

But what about other species?

Should be able to trade them in pairs.

Long salmon; short cod.

Long tuna; short mackerel.

And why the f**k are they cash-settled?

Why can't you take physical delivery? What if you actually want the damn fish?

Stupidest idea I have seen in a long time. Fish futures. Who the hell wants frozen fish? Class IV milk futures revisited!

Well, I guess that's what they thought when they rolled out this product, 'cause they made them cash-settled. You can't get the fish LOL You're just making a wager.

LOL you must really love fish. :D

BTW is this a legit business? Never heard of it and the fact that it is cash settled makes it sound fishy.

Is the volume zero?

there are quite a few products with zero or almost zero volume
eg

iron ore from Comex Metals
Lumber futures
Nasdaq Veles California water index futures from CME Globex
Weather HDD Chicago Futures from Chicago Mercantile
MSCI Russia index futures from Eurex
...

With some products volume (ie. liquidity) doesn't matter, b/c they will be held till the expiration date...
 
Salmon from e.g. Norway is a huge business around here, not surprised there's derivatives for it. Farmed salmon has to a large degree replaced traditional fish since there's none of that left in the Baltic sea. Ironically, a lot of the fishing for the little fish remaining is aimed at providing fish meal for feeding the salmon. :D
