First week of the New Year

I have a system that I have been trading for a few months. The entries are a certain distance from the Asian market open on a Tuesday on the GBPUSD. I generally don't trade through holiday periods but was wondering if the start of the New Year was a ok time to get back in.

Does anyone find that the first week of the year has any different behavior?

Alternatively does anyone find that the day after a long weekend or a public holiday exhibits any different price behavior to normal?

Do holiday periods track sideways due to many participants not trading?

Stats for the first week:

2001-sideways
2002- down
2003- sideways
2004-up
2005-down
2006-up

Lets say due to many participants are not trading that time the market is very thin & can push you anywhere
