This is what the NFL players lack of respect leads to...

That boy's mother is speaking out because of a text message she received from her son's first-grade teacher about the incident.

The text message read:

"I just wanted to let you know that this morning when it was time to do the Pledge of Allegiance, (your son) went down on one knee. I knew where he had seen it but I did tell him that in the classroom we are learning what it means to be a good citizen we're learning about respecting the United States of America and our country symbols and showing loyalty and patriotism and that we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I know its a sensitive issue but I wanted to make you aware. Thanks"

The state law states:

“State law says that the only way that a student can be exempted from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is if they have a written request from their parent and even then the law says that they still have to stand," Cobbe said.

Back when I went to elementary school that student would have been whacked with a large wooden ruler.

Indoctrination of little kids with the pledge is perhaps a large part of the reason so many adults only know they love 'Merca and "boobies".

Why have civics when you have the 2/3 of the highly/fairly impressionable population a bit brainwashed.

Almost nobody else democratic does it in school as it is creepy. I recall some democratic Asian places, Singapore (quite authoritarian really), Thailand's standing for the King etc. though their democracy has had ups and downs lately?

It was re-introduced & re-worded in the 50s to counter communism. A powerful thing to have implanted in the subconscious. I've wondered about it's good & bad many times.

Off in the big metal bird to Prague today. I'll ask them what they did.

Completely absurd.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Standing for the Pledge of Allegiance teaches honor and loyalty to country, lets children understand they are part of a greater community, and reminds them that all are created equal under God and all should be treated and given equal rights to liberty and justice. If anything, it reinforces the very morals - as correct - that all those taking a knee are complaining this country lacks.

It also reminds/teaches that we are a republic, and despite our differences, flourish whenever the country flourishes.

Indoctrination - what a load of horseshit.

Sounds like someone got a little too much indoctrination and got addicted Mr Warrior Samurai Path ;)

It is textbook indoctrination, lets look up the word shall we?

noun: indoctrination
the process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.
"I would never subject children to religious indoctrination"

Being from there you may not see the trees for the woods. I've lost count of the times my cousins & American friends have fallen flat reconciling what they think American is emotionally and what they have seen with their eyes all their lives. The old when was America great exactly? question is a real biscuit twister for that kind of programmed belief.

Also, the pledge does not say "should", no grey areas really. " liberty and justice for all.".. depending on your pocketbook of course.

http://www.ushistory.org/documents/pledge.htm
"In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," " and for other reasons (Knights etc.), indoctrination it is.
