excellent input from all. I need to speak with local builders this week and see what can be done for given $. I will keep everyone posted, computer shopping is like boat or house shopping, you think you know what you "need" and want nothing more. before you know it the budget has tripled for things you would "like" to have lol.

This is a list of components that my build guy suggested. Do you guys see any place I could save money or am I spending money for anything I don't need? I want to run 4 monitors at first with the ability to run 6 monitors later on. My biggest question is with the case. $229 seems steep for a case and then to buy a cpu cooler ontop of that. Is there another case that is roomy for less money you guys could recommend?

I was a bit surprised by the price for the case too at first. Then I realized the case includes a 750W power supply. Then it is not too far off. I bought mine separately. The case was about $100. The 650W power supply was about $70, somethinig like that. Not too far off.

Do you really need a CPU Cooler? I have the same chip, i7 930. Intel ships it with a big heat sink. It seems to do the job okay. No problem so far (about 5 months now).

If you want to save some costs... I use PNY Technologies 8400 GS (dual head). About $60 each. So $120 to support 4 monitors. Does the job all right.

These days 1TB+ drives are not that expensive, especially if you catch them on sale.

I have the same motherboard. Not the "ATX" part. Not sure how big the difference is but the picture looked almost identical to what I have. I remember paying a bit over $200.

And... You said "your builder" picked the components and built (or was going to build) a system for you. (And sell to you at $1400+?) If you already are going to have this, is there any room for pick-and-choose? Are you using his list as a model and are going to build it yourself?
no, I found a guy locally who said he would assemble the components for me for a nominal charge. I told him basically what I wanted to do and this is what he suggested. I will be buying all the parts from Newegg and he will assemble them for me. I can pick and choose anything I want which is why I was hoping to get some feedback from other guys to help choose components for me, I feel his picks were a little pricey where maybe they didn't have to be
That video card is for games and they make noise like a vacuum-cleaner and suck power like no tomorrow. Id suggest passively cooled cards, either 2x2 or one 4x card (like from PNY). Theres also a cheap 3x card (~$40) from ATI with no fan. They have virtually no 3D performance, but work fine for trading.
