Firearm Wanted

That's interesting; but you're right, I have no real knowledge of what Texas is like except from anecdotes here & there. So, for example, what are some of the awful gun laws there?
Open carry is not allowed in Texas. Completely banned. On the Brady Campaign "scorecard", Texas has a pretty high score, higher meaning more restrictive. There are a slew of states after Texas that have more rights. California is first place. I like being in a state that wins last place.

In places like Texas or most anywhere in the South or Midwest, you need a gun to carry around with you. That is because there are many remote areas of the South/mid-west and some desperate characters roaming around.

You could drive for hours in many of those states and not see much of anything. It takes a few hours for a cop to respond. Its a bad feeling when you have a flat somewhere on a long interstate road in Texas without a pistol. People are known to disappear in some of those areas.

I have 100% faith in law enforcement around here. You just need to call 911 and hang-up without saying a word. Believe me, a cop will be at the door within a few minutes. If you call 911 to say that some sort of violent act is going on in your household, then a swarm of officers with drawn weapons will be at the door in under 2 minutes. In NYC, there are always emergency services trucks (swat team) roaming the neighborhoods that respond with the regular cops.

NYC cops roam the streets in both marked and undercover vehicles. Some of those yellow cabs are actually police cars.

Rather then investing in weapons, get yourself a phone where it takes just 1 button to dial 911. Get a locksmith to reinforce your apartment door with a bar where a few good kicks cant bring it down.

Right.....when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away. Stosh

Boxer,

I understand your situation and reason for posting. I find the following combination useful to have around the house. You should be able to obtain the first two new in box from private parties.

For daily carry:

Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special Home Defense pistol with Surefire X300
http://www.lesbaer.com/thundr.html

A few of these stored in tactical locations around the house:

Benelli M2 Super 90 Tactical
http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/large/m2TacticalPGSynthetic12Ga.jpg

If a person is willing to be subject to a background investigation and to give prints, a couple of these are handy for certain situations and can be obtained from a Class III dealer:

H&K MP5 SD3
http://www.hk-usa.com/le_mp5sd_general.html

Semper fi.

In addition:

Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical rifle.

A well trained German Shepherd.

Most important: Courses at Gunsite.

Actually, the Remington 7615 .223 pump action is a very nice firearm because it can take standard AR-15 magazines., and it points and shoots like a 870.

The 700, while an excellent hunting rifle platform in it's various forms, is really only a tactical platform for a sniper. Once you drop down to a 16" barrel and maybe a drop DM down magazine, the 7615 becomes even more compelling. However, I have read many LE armorers debate the use of the 7615 vs an AR-15. The best arguments for the 7615 revolve around the shotgun training officers already have and the 7615 appears more politically correct in the hands of an officer. Most officers if given a choice would rather have the AR-15 or an MP5 in their trunk.

Regarding class III firearms and accessories. Not all States offer class III access to such items as suppressors, SBR (short barrel rifle), automatic or 3-shot burst fire mode, etc. For instance Delaware, allows only the SBR from the list above, but even then getting permission for a SBR has to come from the Chief/Col. of the DE State Police, so very few people get the proper paperwork to file for a Fed Tax stamp. I hold a DE CCW permit, which are also tough to get, and still I could not get the SBR paperwork.

On the other hand, PA is a wonderful State regarding class III firearms and accessories.

... and 3 years later.

We find out theboxer shooting Cramer live on TV with the gun he purchased via ET's recommendation.

Anything is possible when you don't know someone, but why make assumptions about people without any base?

I'll say this: if law-abiding people carried more guns, and more of them armed their homes (safely, of course), violent crime like robbery, home invasion, etc., would drop a significant amount! Can you imagine the dirtbag outside of a person's home asking himself, "I wonder if they might shoot me if I break in?" Lol!!!

I have 3 different caliber handguns at home for various purposes but after reading this thread I thought a shotgun might be better for home defense and I could also have some fun with it. Bought a Mossberg "persuader" (love that name) 12 ga with an 18" barrel for under $300. Came with a pistol grip which I know is not that practical and a heat shield as well. Took it to the range and fired some 00BK shells thru it. Wow ! I feel much more secure with that than with a handgun in my home. I also now know what I can do with the extra pumpkins out of my garden next fall :D

Home invaders seem to be using body armor of recent. A guy killed one with a very high powered hunting rifle a while back. A shotgun with a laser sight for head shots might work. Any pistol with power to penetrate body armor is so loud that you won't want to grab it and fire it indoors without your earmuffs, your ears will be ringing for days...

That's where my Ar-15 comes into use. 5.56mm, and VERY fast! Only the massive flack vests the troops in Iraq wear stand a slight chance. The stuff street cops and the modern thugs wear=no chance. Through and through penetration.

The only bad thing about the 5.56 is the fact that it shoots through walls, so not a great choice with numerous occupied bedrooms in the house unless extesively trained.

i.e., stick with the 12g with 3" 00 magnum. Ooh rah!
