I've just noticed that Coursera are hosting a MOOC run by Yale University on financial markets. Will be fairly basic I expect but might be of benefit to some people here.

I have taken a few MOOCs recently via Coursera and edX on topics ranging from genetics to machine learning, and think it's wonderful that quality teaching from the world's top universities is now available free of charge to everyone with an internet connection.
 
I saw that course too, Im planning to check out a few of its videos.

yeah, that's the one...

It is a pretty fun class, good for ppl with moderate programming skills, who know little of the markets, it teaches you the basics of putting together an automated system using python.
 
I liked the python app he had, I still use it long after the course. I thought the course was interesting but not useful since they talk about building positions with many stocks which wouldn't work with a commission for each trade. But then I found motif investing, they let you put together a bunch of stocks and etf's with percentage weights for single $10 commission, I can put the concepts in the course to use.
