FEC chair responds to Trump saying he'd accept foreign intel on opponent: 'It is illegal'

Interesting, thanks for that. Will definitely dig further to see how the FEC itself interpreted this part of the law in previous cases. I think like here, debates and exchanges can be had in a civilized manner between those who attach value to logical reasoning and a pursuit of the truth.

Fox News Legal Analyst Pulls No Punches: Trump Is 'Prepared To Commit A Felony'

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano said there’s not much room for interpretation when it comes to President Donald Trump’s claim that he’d “listen” if a foreign power offered dirt on a political rival.

“He would be committing a felony,” Napolitano told host Shepard Smith on Thursday.

Trump this week said “there’s nothing wrong with listening” to dirt on an opponent, no matter what the source.

“They have information,” he said in an ABC interview. “I think I’d take it.”

Napolitano said that would be a crime, and there’s “no wiggle room” as the Federal Election Commission has in previous cases decided that opposition research is considered a “thing of value.”

Under the law, a candidate can’t receive anything of value from a foreign national related to a U.S. election.

And that means Trump would be committing a crime.

“The president of the United States of America is prepared to commit a felony to get reelected,” he said. “That was my reaction, and it was not a happy one.”

Napolitano also said that whoever gives the president that info would also be committing a felony:

For fucks sake, wtf?

Once again, Trump invites foreign nations to interfere in our elections and and his army of retards defends it.

This is just more proof that the internet has done to conservatives what was thought video games would do to children.

Perhaps, but there are also some others who clearly state that the point they made or considered is based on their own interpretation and opinion. Not that it matters to the law or truth but just saying some, who might otherwise politically disagree with you more often than not are equally invested in the pursuit of the truth.

Yes, we certainly do have our share of omniscient members here at ET. Being so all-knowing must be an awful burden for them.

Why do we have to debate facts?

And when will you wake up to ignore the noise and focus on the significant issue, the actions? Don't care what Trump says, care what he did and does. Easier to work with that than being outraged all day.

Because those are not facts. Those are INTERPRETATIONS of an oversight body made up by people. We can talk about facts when/if it gets all the way up to the Supreme Court and is settled there.

Why do we have to debate facts?

House democrats have introduced a bill defining opposition research or "dirt" as a thing of value. There would be no need for this legislation if the current law was cut & dried.

Here’s how that bill would work: It would include opposition research as a thing of value in the existing foreign contribution ban already in campaign finance law. The bill would essentially clarify existing law to say that opposition research or other negative information related to a campaign solicited from or donated by a foreign government does not need to have money attached to it to make a “thing of value.”

Trump is the current president of the United States! What he says reverberates across the world.

If he says tariffs, stock markets go down; if he says war, nations take defensive actions; if he says it’s ok to interfere in our elections, nations interfere.

You expect people to not have any understanding of the world and to pretend as though what the president of the United States says has no consequences. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

Wrong. Absent a court ruling that body’s interpretation is the law.

Wrong, it reverberates in the brains of those who are extremely sensitive to anxieties, opposing thoughts and expressions, feelings, and emotions. The rest of the world, especially decision makers have a long time ago filtered out the person and focused on decisions and orders, given. I would say Abe and Merkel are especially noteworthy in that regard. I would mention the Queen as well was she not such a raunchous and racist bitch.

Markets go up and down not because of things anyone says but because of the expectation of future actions. Words and actions, big difference.
