The local crime stats included in the Federal report is interesting for what it lacks...
One of our local RTP area cities, Durham, is a city where the majority of the city is known as a hell-hole infested with gangs, drugs, and violence. The Durham police only have time to falsely accuse college lacrosse players of crimes (remember the Duke Lacrosse case) in an attempt to pander to the minority community (which is a majority in Durham). Durham has a huge murder and violent crime rate. Every day brings a new headline about a shooting.
Durham refused to participate or submit data to the federal survey. The other local towns and cities all had their crime rates drop.... in Durham it probably soared... but we won't know because they are hiding the information.
I wonder how many more violence infested cities are not in the federal data because the police management refused to submit data because of how badly it would reflect on the city and its law enforcement.
