i don't get how anyone could be defending the idea that the top level FBI were planning to take down an elected president. Don't you all realize this could happen to a left in 20 years?

Comey is out, Strzok and Ohr have been demoted and are in limbo, and McCabe is hanging on but has fallen to point where forces are against him now.
As discussed, Mueller came in with two goals: 1) damage trump as much as he can, and 2) defend the fbi and comey and restore them to white-hat status.
His appointment alone is enough to make trump's life miserable so he will be able to accomplish some limited version of goal number one. But the fbi and the fbi under comey are just spiraling further into the toilet and the inspector general's reports has not even come out yet. When comey leaked documents to get Mueller appointed, he may have outsmarted himself. Comey's goal of having himself and his agency re-framed as the white knight agency is not going to happen. He will be remembered as the guy who politicized the FBI and brought down Hillary Clinton while trying to bring Trump down. Doesn't get any more flucked up than that. Wayyyyy to go Comey.
Mueller is going to be around for a long time to come because he has nothing else to do in life. The republicans need to open up two more counterpunching fronts. At least two special counsels to go after the FBI and the Clinton/Foundation/Uranium mess. If they don't. It will just watching Mueller pick the meat off their bones all next year. You can't fire Mueller so you have to leave the country wallowing in Clinton shit and crimes so that they have that to think about when it comes to deciding who has been good and who has been bad.
