Hey...I'm curious about favorite verses that people might have from different religious texts. Please post some verses that you think best capture the spirit of your religion. Would love to hear some from the Koran (which we in the US hear very little of). All are welcome. And please, respect for all. Thanks.

I'll start with a verse from the christian gospels, since that is what i grew up with.

Matthew 7:3-5

"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?

"You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye; then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
 
from Isaiah chapter 40 with a little cutting and pasting

probably most renowned for a mention in Chariots of Fire (my favorite movie of all time right up there with The Godfather, Blade Runner, etc.)

Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth

That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
 
Who has believed our message

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, nd was numbered with the transgressors.

For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
