Dad Hits Teacher With Baseball Bat After 'Inappropriate' Texts Sent To Daughter

A Maryland dad likely won't see any charges after he struck a local teacher with a baseball bat.

Police say the dad saw a series of texts on Thursday between the 42-year-old teacher and his daughter, a 15-year-old student. The girl's mother deemed them "inappropriate for a teacher and a student" to be sharing, News Net 5 reports. Investigators didn't agree and never charged the teacher with a crime, but the situation took a downturn later that day when the unidentified teacher showed up at the girl's house.

He wanted to speak to the girl's father, but was told to leave, CBS local reports. When he refused, the dad reportedly whacked him with a baseball bat. The teacher sustained minor injuries.

Police arrived at the Nottingham home at about 9:45 p.m., but the teacher didn't press charges.

The Crimes Against Children Unit continues to investigate, according to The Baltimore Sun. The department said it won't release the names of the girl and her parents.

Would you do the same in the father's position?

If nothing inappropriate in the texts then the father should be charged with assault. We live in such a fucked up society today ... parents brawling at pee wee baseball/football games and so on. A BIG part of the issues in this regard are the parents.

Id probably pop the teacher simply for texting my daughter, that in and of itself is ground for getting your ass kicked. Any kind of banter besides "This is your homework assignment" between a teacher and a kid is inappropriate.

That said i agree with what you said about sports, parents are fucking crazy, when i was in novice hockey (10 years old) we were in a small town and our coach punched the reff who happened to be from the small town, it caused all the parents to come over the glass in an all out melee....... And eventually the RCMP showed up and hauled half of them off to jail. This was at an age where we could hardly even skate, lol.

Again not knowing what was in the texts ... if the daughter sent a text to the teacher .. about homework or a project then a reply might be appropriate. My point was maybe the father went off the deep end without knowing all the facts (of which I clearly don't know). So innocent until proven guilty IMO.

Teachers shouldn't be texting students ever. There's plenty of ways to communicate with a student or a teacher. There's even an official email the teacher uses for assignment questions.

Don't open yourself up to the possibility of misunderstanding by staying official.

Agreed. The mom saw the texts and thought they were inappropriate. A 42 year old male teacher should not be sending texts to a 15 year old female student at all and certainly not ones that anybody could find inappropriate. Then he goes to their house? He's lucky all he got was a baseball bat. Maybe he was going over to apologize, but what if the parents were not home? How would it look then? Couldn't he see there was a real potential for things to get ugly?

It certainly sounds like this teacher needs to be fired for lack of judgment if nothing else.

We don't know what was said regarding texts. We don't know why the teacher showed up on the front step and was asked to leave but wouldn't.

What we do know is the teacher was asked by the dad to leave and wouldn't.

That in itself is grounds for being wacked with a ball bat.

The homeowner was well within his rights to try to remove the perp from his property by use of force IF the perp was emanating immediate threat, which is maybe why the police probably didn't make an arrest.

The act of violence may have had nothing to do with the context of the texts.

Hello!!!!!

If someone shows up on my steps with an issue that I don't agree with I do NOT have the right to whack him with a baseball bat.

And specifically, we have a next door neighbor that we detest. Their dogs sometimes get out of their yard and come into ours ... and one dog is aggressive, shows teeth and froths at the mouth. It's intimidating. So if I call the owner, he comes over, we discuss it and he (as he always does) is in denial you're suggesting I have the right to hammer him in the head with a bat? If he and I have a discussion ... and don't come to a resolution or agreement on what needs to be done and I ask him to leave but he doesn't ... then I can assault him? I may not be a lawyer ... but you know nothing about the law and what constitutes assault.

I didn't say that he was within his rights to hit the guy because of a disagreement. I said he could remove the guy with force if he felt the guy was presenting a threat to him or his family.

The cops could have pressed charges even without consent from the battered teacher IF they thought a law had been violated by the homeowner.

They could clearly see how busted up the teacher was. They probably heard both sides of the story and determined the homeowner may have been well within his rights to use violent force against the teacher.

We simply don't know.

As for your asshole dog owner neighbor- well, going by what you've told me, How could you possibly have any reason to wack him with a ball bat?

As you have said, when you call him, he comes over per your request to discuss with you in a civil manner what could possibly be an over dramatic reaction on your part.

If you feel the dog is emanating an immediate threat to you or your family, you could kill it and be well under the protection of law.

Perhaps if you politely told your neighbor this, he would practice better control of his potentially dangerous pet.
