Fast Food and Minimum Wage

So the burger flippers are striking.

There's a few interesting quotes in this story. But the most interesting one is the very last line:

Last month, voters in New Jersey approved a hike in the minimum to $8.25 an hour, up from $7.25 an hour.

THAT is exactly how our country is supposed to operate. Some state somewhere decides to try something, then we can all see how it works out. Then other states can decide if they want to move along that course or not.

Even more interesting, what are the prices for a Big Mac in Jersey? A Double Cheeseburger? A large fries? It'd be interesting to see. And how about employment? How has it changed?

There's plenty more to say, like what would happen if the protesters got their $15 an hour. But I'll leave that for others or for later. Anybody know Jersey McDonald prices?

If $15/hr goes through, we should see lots of fast food places close down, lots of workers laid off. When burgers and fries get too expensive, folks will start eating at home and bagging their lunch.

Just as the genius Founders intended.... limited Federal government, State's Rights.

That is if your state gets overbearing, you can move to another.... sort of a "checks and balances" on the states. Means little, however, when the Federal government is large and powerful.

15 bucks an hour to bag burgers? Crazy. There are millions of people who work semi skilled manufacturing jobs that don't make that. There are millions people with degrees working in administrative positions that enter at about 30-35K a year.
So here's their argument. I can't pay my bills on 7.25 an hour. Yeah, and... So we're supposed to pay people based upon their personal debt issues? I can see it now. This janitors job pays 10 bucks and hour, but for you, since you have lots of bills we'll pay you 25. Makes perfect sense in the mind of the leftist.

It depends on which part of the state you are in. Southern Jersey has prices more in line with national average, Northern (urban) Jersey follows the NYC model.

Is there a shortage of FF places in New Jersey?
