The premarket/afterhours markets do give some indication of where things may be headed. However the volume of the AH markets ought to tell you that there isn't enough to lend that indication much weight.
The AH market right before the opening bell might sink a stock and opening bell brings it up many %, this is because the normal market hours have much higher volume and so often overwhelm what was being indicated early morning.
Use it only as a tool to see what people are thinking before the bell, BUT remember once the bell rings the rules change dramatically.
