I doubt US will lower the DEFCON , but China Japan S Korea etc will certainly highten their military alerts.

Chicken before the egg before the chicken. Japan ignored our attempts to demonstrate versus actually use the bomb. What if one player (ie Hitler, Stalin, etc) actually doesn't have any care for human life of an enemy (or even his own)?

I won't even get started on how all of this airport security actually does little to protect, since a truely motivated killer can easily still kill in airports, public places, or wherever he wants -- we've just made it harder for him to bring two bottles of chemicals on board of a plane and light himself on fire (in other words, kill people in one *Very* specific way).
3) US has fueled more hatred of our policy and culture through our actions, so just because the domestic death toll for 2001-2006 is very little, there are no guarantees for 2007 and beyond. Perhaps those numbers will dwarf 9/11 and have net effects that make our policies' effectiveness look silly.

We havn't had an attack because we are taking the battle to them. Spend some time studying the art of war and you'll learn quite a bit about what can and can't be done in war. Why do you think that UBL is offering a truce? The writing is on the wall, and his organization is falling apart.
Wealth transfer....do you own a house? Pull out a pad of paper, create a net worth statement and compare it to a few years ago. As long as your not stupid enough to live above your means, you are likely better off financially.
