Family book "Das Fatherland"

Some of my grandparents used to speak German but the newer generations were not really allowed to so we converted to English. I have a book I can not read that is written in German - I think high German as there are some different dialects. It is family property and don't wish to sell it but I'm currious if it's worth anything. It's called Das Fatherland . It's a very old book and has a blue cover with some nice drawings. I looked on the internet and didn't see any references to it but know Das Fatherland has a lot of meaning among real Germans.
Any thoughts?

put it on ebay with a million dollar reserve price and see what it will fetch.

Ah poop, well that makes it tougher!
I'd bet there would be many books of that name or similiar, its a fairly generic phrase.

So it would be "Das Vaterland" i guess, certainly not actually spelled fatherland-might help search terms googling. Beyond that, no idea, as usual:)

Yeah it's on the internet so perhaps it's not as rare as I thought. Just a shot in the dark. Oh well.

I think 1889 is a little before WWII, and just because its on the net doesn't mean it's yesterdays paper, may be even easier to establish providence/value.

No wonder it was locked up, even if it's not a truly irreplaceable-priceless heirloom, it sure as heck is an important peice of german/american memorabilia.

Very interesting, now you just have to establish the print run etc, but at least you've found the book, that has to be a plus.

Oh yah.. My father had it and said I could have it if I want it. I had asked him if he still had the book. I called it Das Fatherland mistakenly. At first I thought it was a common but but I looked around for it and couldn't find any other copies of it. It would be nice if there were only so many people that had the book. It is very interesting. I was impressed to see there was some type of translation of what the book was about since I don't speak German.
Nevertheless if it's not worth anything it is still meaningful.
